Quite simply, City Tacos-University St. is off the hook Mexican food! And interesting to me that their menu is essentially about... 15- 20 different tacos, a few sides, and a few 'wraps' (wraps there are semi-equivalent to their version of a burrito?!) - savethe wraps for last, tha tacos are IT!! The variety on the menu is pretty incredible, and one of the 1st places I've ever seen ascallop taco. I always start with the carnitas in order to compare to other shops, and on their 4-7 'traditional' tacos, thecarnitas rocks. The other day their 'special' taco for the day was a 'pulled lamb' taco - bomb ???? ???? they seem to alwayshave a daily special - last night was a very thinly sliced steak fried in a wild array of Mexican spices - excellent!! Anddon't think its just an interesting main w/ pico & some tired guacamole - every taco is a completely rebuilt experience w/ avariety of different ingredients, toppings, etc. to round out the dish perfectly. Oh, did I mention their salsa bar? It willcompletely spoil you unfortunately, everything elsewhere a distant 2nd. So good I just sip it directly from the little cup -CAN'T miss the Mango Habanero (they seem to hide that one behind the counter - ask for it!!). You can't go wrong, and you waitedtoo long - DO IT!! PSA - No thanks necessary ???????????????? Read more

Partner and I got pescado (picture) and mexicalo. Both agreed, legit some of the best tacos we've personally had (Not comparing... to a typical corn tortilla el pastor/carne asada type of taco). These tacos are fresh and thoughtful in the combination ofingredients. The sauce bar/cilantro onion is a great touch. I want to come back to San Diego just to eat here again... And again Read more

Stumbled on City Tacos as we explored San Diego. Excellent! Friendly service, quick food, and delicious. We enjoyed out tacos... out at a table on the sidewalk. Our favourites were the fish taco and the Mexicali. Read more

I wanna give it 5 stars cuz it does taste good but they are just soooo smaaaall compared to other places for this price! I mean... $4.50 for a tiny taco sucks when you can have a loaded taco for the same price down the street.. but the flavor is good though! So much variety and different kinds to choose from. Also great vegetarian options ( honest they are some of my favorite oneshere ) so gotta try it! Read more

Yeah these are great tacos. By themselves they're good, but the creativity in the house specials really sets them apart. The... spicy shrimp one, while not spicy, is their best taco. Go on a Tuesday for a small discount on Taco Tuesday! There is a restroomwaaaaay in the back. Read more

Friendly staff. Their tacos flavor is good, however their salsa bar is not available, i used to love this place for their... different salsas. This time when we ordered they gave us 2 small salsa containes and one appeared to have been alreasy used. The meat was hard, which really disappointed. They used to have great deals for taco tuesday. NOT anymore. For a taco tuesday,we were not that impressed this time. Read more

Good tacos, in the middle of a bustling area. Live DJ spinning tunes the night we were there, which was fun. Outdoor seating... was great for eating out but enjoying the night breeze (and avoiding COVID). Nice side bonus: They're right across the streetfrom a really great bottle shop, so you can have a pretty huge selection of beers to accompany your dinner (if the couple beerson tap inside don't do it for you).
