Everything was so delicious. I ordered the salmon and I was served 2 large pieces and it was amazing! The garlic parmesan... dressing in the salad was good and carrot cake was really good! No one ordered anything they didn't like! It was pricey but fora nice night out I don't feel like I wasted my money. Read more

This is a must see. Blown away that this building was established in 1779. The neighborhood is cute to check out a well. The... brie appetizer was so wonderful. Their onion soup had so many layers to it. They definately put alot of work into it you couldtell. The full rack of lamb so soft and the sauce is such a nice addition to the plate. Read more

I could not miss dining in The Tavern, in Abingdon, Virginia. It is like stepping back in time. The main street on which it is... located clearly reflects early America. The building in which the restaurant is located also looks like early America. In fact, according to the company, the bar in the restaurant is the oldest in Virginia and the 8th oldest in the United States. Thewalls are stone. The tables are wood and look like colonial America. Sitting downstairs, diners can clearly hear people walkingup and down the stairs. The building not only looks old and realistic, it is old and realistic. Anyone passing through Abingdonshould make an effort to dine here in the evening if possible. The menu features a number of German dishes and has an extensivelist of wines and mixed drinks. A good number of wines are available by the glass. On this occasion, I ordered OystersRockefeller (not a German dish, to my knowledge). They were served very hot and had a good flavor. The oysters were small andcovered with a tasty combination of cheese, garlic, bacon and bread crumbs. There were six oysters and a nice taste. Fordinner, two of us split weinerschnitzel. (This is a German dish.) The weinerschnitzel had a good flavor with the pan friedbreading. The schnitzel had been pounded so it was very thin?actually thinner than I would have preferred. We ordered a greenbeans side that as available this particular evening rather than the red cabbage that normally accompanies the dish. There wasalso a generous helping of spaetzle. Both the beans and spaetzle had a good flavor. The beans were cooked more and were softerthan what is often served in a high end restaurant but the garlic flavor was good. The setting, atmosphere and food that isserved makes The Tavern a very good choice for an evening meal. Read more

Celebrated our 28th Anniversary at the Tavern. It was a fabulous experience! We had the caprese for our appetizer which was so... fresh with amazing flavors! My husband had the Weiner schnitzel because they didn't have the schnitzel he wanted- it was thepork chop one. It was great. The best dish was my stuffed salmon. It was awesome! The asparagus was cooked perfectly too! Fordessert, we had the vanilla bean creme brulee which is the dessert that is made at the restaurant. We will definitely be backsoon. We decided this was our favorite anniversary dinner in 28 years! The atmosphere was perfect! Read more

Oct 23 2021 My husband and I had our wedding and reception at The Tavern. For us it was a destination wedding. We Live in FL but... want to get married somewhere special. I wanted a location that was more than just a venue, something with its own story andenergy, someplace we could revisit every year. I looked at options from Key West to Asheville and nothing seemed quite right, then I remembered years ago stopping at The Tavern and falling in love with the place. My wedding was magical from start tofinish. The owners were caring and wonderful. They made it easy for us to coordinate the decorators, musicians and florists. Forthe set-up we had an intimate wedding with 20 guests in the rear courtyard and dinner inside the large room downstairs. We setup a long table down the center of the room and still had room for a keyboardist and cellist to set-up. The owner created apriceless menu for our guests, so everyone was able to order exactly what they wanted off the menu without having to pre-selectan entree. NOTE: This was perfect for our varied bunch of keto, special diets and vegetarians. The food was AMAZING regardlessof the entree selected! Everyone raved about what they ordered, and the presentation was beautiful. We were assigned a singleserver for the evening and he was PERFECT. The owners know their team and he delivered. Our waiter never fell behind, thingswent smoothly, he kept things flowing, and accommodated whatever was needed. Guest came up to me the next day and mentioned howimpressed they were with his service. As a venue: The Taverns' stone floor and walls, paired with hundreds of candles andgreenery created a warm magical ambiance unlike any wedding reception I have ever attended. Since then, 3 people have asked meto help them make their wedding like mine...but it isn't possible. The Tavern itself added unexplainable elements that leftguests feeling like they had an experience like no other. Read more
