I have gotten into the habit of ordering either a plain cheese or pepperoni pizza every time I try a new pizza place to measure... how well they can get the basics right. I ordered a pepperoni pizza here, and for a wood fired pizza, I was somewhat impressed!There was plenty of dough and it was well distributed between the center and crust of the pizza. There was quite a bit of cheeseon it. It was delicious, and I enjoyed eating the pizza. However, I have had many, many different pizzas in my lifetimeincluding Preps and Manco & Manco's on the Jersey shore, and Antico's pizza in Atlanta. Compared to some of my favorite pizzas,Il Vicino's didn't hold a candle. Perhaps the mozzarella didn't have as high of a freshness quality to its taste in comparison?Perhaps the sauce didn't have enough onion and/or garlic in its flavor? I've been going to basically all the Il Vicino restaurants in NM for years. I cannot speak about other dishes, as I always get... pizza and cannoli, but pizza and cannoli are excellent. I was born and raised in Italy, and this would be an excellent pizza inItaly. I also like the informal format of ordering upfront.
