Good: Kids liked the Lo Mein and the Egg rolls. Cons: Unable to reach by phone for two days and staff seemed uninterested in... that. The chicken in the Moo Goo Gai Pan tasted like oily fish and we ended up throwing it out. Daughter got sick later andfelt better after throwing up but can't say for sure it was related. The other major disappointment was the onions. Onionseverywhere. Giant (yellow?) onion chunks in every dish even ones that don't normally call for it like the Moo Goo Gai Pan. I getit that it is a chef's choice to use whatever ingredients they want but the traditional scallions would have been better andonly in dishes where they fit. The giant onion chunks seemed to take something away from the dishes in our opinion. Consideringthe price and the seemingly indifferent service I rated this a star lower than I normally would for a similar experience had thecustomer service been better. Read more

Good food. Need to specify what comes in each dish...rice, noodles, etc. Chow mein "noodles" are fried wonton strips.

Delicious general Tao's chicken and amazing Peking duck with all the fixings (order at least 24hrs in advance).

Used to love the lemon chicken but what I got yesterday was terrible. The meat was totally dried out like it's been sitting... under a heating lamp for hours. Needless to say it ended up in the garbage can. ... The rice, egg rolls and egg drop soup stilltasted great. Read more

I've driven past this Bistro when leaving the Coronado Mall several times and it's always sparked my curiosity. The other day I... finally got my chance to see what it's always about. First and foremost, the place was dead as a doornail during my entire visitwith the only exception being when the food delivery guys stopped by to drop off some supplies. Considering the location andtime of day; I wouldn't expect this to be terribly abnormal, nor a detrimental sign for how business is going (but I could bewrong). The menu featured essential Chinese dishes with a few unique twists. I arrived just before lunch special time ended andwas able to take full advantage. What caught my eye on it was the ambiguously named "Happy Family". I had to have my serverexplain to me that it was a combination platter consisting of various meats, vegetables, fried rice, egg roll, and a choice ofsoup; I chose the egg drop. The egg drop soup was piping hot and delicious. It didn't come with any side plate of wontons, butthe addition of peas and carrots made up for it. The overall meal itself was pretty good, but nothing beyond that. The meatswere well cooked and seasoned but only made up about thirty percent of the dish's content. The fried rice was so-so as was theegg roll. Service was definitely a plus as my server was constantly checking up on me and refilling my water glass. TheCoronado/midtown area doesn't feature too many family-owned Chinese eateries. If in the area and looking for such a place,Tsai's Chinese Bistro will satisfy. My experience may not have been five stars, but given the chance, I would certainly returnto try something else. Read more
