I?ve been all over the US - North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Wyoming, North Dakota, Michigan. I?ve had the best food there is... in just about every place in the Midwest. Tonight we stopped at Claxon?s on vacation and had the best meal I?ve ever eaten outof any place I?ve ever been. We could not believe the amount of food, the quality and amazing flavor. Kim was a great server,great atmosphere and filled us in on the history of the smokehouse. If you haven?t been here before, you absolutely have to makethe trip. 10/10 we will be back next time we are in Des Moines! Read more
We started off with an appetizer of cheese curds. They were greasy but really good. After the large portion, I decided to share... the 2 meat and 2 sides combo with my husband. First the sides! We got fried okra and mac and cheese. My favorite of the 2 wasdefinitely the fried okra. Huge fan of whatever seasoning they put on it! The mac and cheese was alright - nothing special. Ialso got to try a bite of jalapeno okra cornbread. That was sooooo good! Now the meats: The Cajun Quarter Chicken was acceptablebut also a little dry. Brisket was served thick but was juicy & well marbled, seasoned & smoked just right with a flaky solid bite. Served with a... fluffy bun. Original Sauce was not too sweet with a little kick but the hot was great flavor & heat! Mashed potatoes wererecommended by the waiters and were excellent, creamy & very flavorful. Okra Corn Bread was unique tasty goodness came wjalapeño butter. Mac&cheese was light and cheesy perfect al dente spirals w shredded cheese top.
