After spending 4 weekends here in a row, I can say honestly that I would rather drink at a place that's closer to my job, even... if The Moan & Dove is a two minute walk from my house. Casey is an excellent bartender. However, the bartender who worked on5/13 was far more interested in playing awful music (there was a two minute song consisting of royalty free synths and stringsalong with bubble popping sound effects) and speaking very loudly about cryptocurrency to the patrons across the bar. I usuallywouldn't be bothered by this, but when it was time to interact with me, after paying for two shots with a ten dollar bill, heasked "do you not tip?" It was around this time that I realized my money and everyone else's money would be too good here. Theattitude and overall lack of inclusiveness is the reason why college students would rather stay in the crowded dives that aresprinkled throughout the Amherst and Northampton area, even if there was a nicely lit, reasonably sized bar not five minutesaway. They're a very nice little place with a welcoming, friendly atmosphere! A friend at the time had taken me here for my birthday a... few years ago. I never been to a bar before this experience. The bar tender was a lovely girl who allowed me to try Guinness andserved pink beer, (I asked for anything pink), on the house. She was very kind & wished me a happy birthday during a time inwhich my mother was dying & I was at the lowest point in life pretty much. The only downside was they no longer offered akitchen menu, so we had to leave and order food across the street and then go back to Moan & Dove to enjoy our meal & drinks.This was inconvenient, I've wondered if they found a chef and started up the kitchen again. I'd imagine with Covid being thefavorite kill joy, likely not but never know & one can always hope! It was a cozy spot, very small, intimate but upbeat, darksomewhat but right for the mood it plays. I wished there were more singles in the crowd and of course being Amherst often thatyounger crowd. My high rating basically reflects the bar tender and her kindness & fun and that it was an interesting place togo dig, shelled peanuts in all ???? I hope they're still doing well through everything that's happened! Wish I still rememberthe car tenders name, but she was fabulous there in October 202016, wasbut that long ago?!? Sorry my review is late in comingbut I only just happened to come across the place again online and the memory was reinvigorated!!!
