This place surprised me - two person crew - one man cooking, one lady taking orders, payments, and getting customers through.... They both run the place like clockwork. Izzy?s is culinary institution in Ann Arbor. Is the place modern and clean in appearance? No. Can wait times be 1hr for a... hoagie? Yes. Is the food consistent, made to order, and most importantly, always delicious? Yes. People always question thehours, if operation wait for a hoagie, and the amount of staffing, but why? Sure they could hire more employees, allow dine inagain, and be open later and on the weekends. But they aren?t and that?s okay. Continue making those delicious hoagies, theworld needs it! Read more
In the 1970s there was a little sub-shop in central New Jersey where I fell in love with the cheesesteak hoagie. And visiting... Philadelphia several times over the years, I am somewhat addicted to the sandwich. Since then I?ve been tempted by so manyrestaurants that advertise ?the authentic cheesesteak? all over the midwest; much to my continued disappointment. That is untilIzzy?s! This is the closest I?ve found to a good cheesesteak hoagie outside of Phillie or Jersey. The flavors and texture ofthe meat-cheese-bread combo was wonderful, and my mouth is watering just thinking about going back. The restaurant is nothingfancy, and thanks to covid it is all carry-out still; but that adds to the mystique of the sandwich from my time in Jersey. Read more
