Very nice food, and the server (owner?) was friendly too. I have to deduct a star or two because they allow outdoor guests to... smoke cigarettes at their tables. I've been here a couple times and it's always the case. On this particular occasion an entiretable of people was lighting up multiple times throughout my meal... and even from far across I had to smell their stink theentire time. There's a reason this is prohibited in NY... Not cool. Read more
This restaurant was recommended by a local so we planned to have dinner here while visiting Astoria. It became the most... memorable dinner of our whole NY trip! Staff is genuine and friendly. ????GREEK FOOD IN ASTORIA, Queens ny - @Stamatis.Restaurant / @stamatis.restaurant.astoria ????Wanted to explore more of... Astoria while we stayed in long island city. This area is known for its Greek community, eaters, and cafes. Super walkableneighborhood and there are two main busy streets we have found After a bit of wandering, we wanted outdoor seating and foundStamatis on the Google map with great reviews. I do have to say, I felt a bit out of place going into this restaurant as we werethe only Asians ????????or even anyone other than Greek That's how legit this place was! The server was really nice and helpedus navigate through their huge menu, recommended a few items: ????Grilled octopus ????Fresh sea bass ????Saganaki (friedcheese) ????chicken souvlaki platter with dandelions ????Moussaka (egg plant, ground beef, onions, feta, & scallions withbesamel cream) I think overall my favorite was the seafood (as usual). Made light with olive oil and herbs, not too heavy. Thefried cheese was surprisingly good as it was recommended by the water. Crispy in the outside, melty inside. Thin cut , to beeaten with this red tomato ???? paste Instead of the moussaka we were going to order the Nest. It had a beef stew in it butthey ran out of that item. The moussaka was like your hearty lasagna without all the carbs . The eggplants and beef togethermakes the textures consistent but includes the earthy taste of eggplants.
