Got Sausage and Brisket. Sides were Mac and Potato Salad. This is really good BBQ! I thought the brisket was a tad drier than... expected but the meat had a good smoke ring and flavor. The sausage was really good, had a bit of either German or Czech styleflavor, very impressed with that. The Mac was incredible, hands down probably the best Mac I?ve had at a BBQ joint here. 9.8/10Would recommend to beginners and BBQ experts alike. Also came at Wednesday at 2, no line. Read more
Micklethwait is a perfect outdoor Texas BBQ diamond and a must stop for anyone who wants spectacular smoked meats. We got to... Micklethwaits about an hour before they opened to avoid any sold out items or a long line. While waiting the aroma of thesmokers, fireboxes, and the meats being prepared inside filled the mist fanned and umbrella covered picnic area. It was one ofthe best parts of out trip just waiting for the meal. Once the windows opened for service there was an instant 20 minute line, not because they were short staffed or limited by space, but the flow of people coming was constant. The employees were helpful, efficient, and pleasant and the ordering was as easy as could be. We ordered the brisket, beef rib (pictured), sausage and abunch of sides for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We had plenty for all with a price tag of only 80 bucks. I cannot say enough aboutthe quality, flavor, and texture of the meats. If you are lucky enough to get a beef rib, do not pass it up, it is kin to areligious experience. The flavor coming from the smoker, minimal spices, and top cut of beef was literally (and not like thekids say it now a day) the best thing I have ever eaten. The rib and brisket were cooked perfectly and so tender you can cutthem with the provided plastic silverware. There was a BBQ sauce on the table which I don't think anyone considered using but ifyou do need it it is there. When again in the Austin area we will be back. 10/10 Read more
Austin BBQ is a bit of a he said she said in terms of what?s best, because in general it?s all the best there is in the country.... Micklethwait is one of my favorite spots to go for it though because the sides are amazing, I know the brisket is always juicyand flavorful, and because the sausage is top notch. It?s consistently great and it?s always somewhere I love to show to peoplefrom out of town. They have the Saddle Up beer garden open now, which adds a cool twist to the standard Micklethwaitexperience. Lots of beer and drink options to enjoy while you?re waiting for your food or even to order and help quell the stormafter you start suffering from a case of the meat sweats. Sides are great; the slaw is one of my favorites and the Mac is alsohighly recommended. Expect a wait in Saturdays if you aren?t there by opening but pretty chill if you go during the week withinthe first couple of hours they?re open Read more
Can't go to Texas without having some barbecue. What feels even more Texas is lining up for a food truck and grabbing a seat at... one of the picnic tables in the outdoor space. I found it interesting that there was plenty of land to put in a brick & mortarrestaurant, but eating outside is part of the charm in Austin. We shared two $17 two meat plates, and we chose the Brisket,Pork Ribs, Beef Rib, Sausage, Beet Salad, Beans, Coleslaw, with sliced bread. The brisket was very tender and sausage verysavory with a good snap. The ribs were good, but not great for sharing, because there's only 1 or 2 of them in each order. Thebeet salad and coleslaw were very refreshing and cooled us down on that hot day. If I ever return, I think I'd want to try abrisket sandwich or the Frito pie. Read more

We had half pound of brisket (2 slices) and one beef rib (around 0.8 pounds). The beef rib was comparable to Black's - very... tender and meaty. Brisket was about the same level of Rudy's, and part of it was dry and over-seasoned. Their smoky flavor wasrelatively light (compared to Black's and Salt Lick). A side note is I liked the onion very much - they were sweet and crispy, not pungent at all. Overall the experience was good, although I did feel the food was a bit overpriced. Read more
