Whether you're local to Austin or traveling through Austin, SLAB BBQ is the best place to stop for barbecue! I recently tried... the popular Texas size sammich called the "Donk" which is basically a 1 lb. sandwich stacked with every SLAB smoked meat +toppings and sauces, which was BOMB! This place had much better food in its previous less fancy BBQ restaurant incarnation. I had naked St. Louis ribs and the meat... was really fall off the bone tender, but without the sauce it had zero smoky or whatever flavor. The sauce and the beans weretoo sweet. The bbq here while not served in the traditional Texas way,but instead as sandwiches is super. The sides are also very good. If... you come during lunch expect it to be busy, the line does move fast though. I enjoyed the McDowell which is their rib sandwichand thought it was excellent. Note I enjoyed it with the normal portion size and it was plenty. I can’t imagine the doublemeat version. Read more
