The architects and interior designers did an amazing job transforming this 110 year old brokerage into a sophisticated,... beautiful restaurant. It’s worth the price of a cocktail just to enjoy the atmosphere. The cuisine is equally superb. Ithought the menu offered a nice variety of dishes. I’ve dined here twice with friends. I wanted to really fall in love with this place. The space is beautifully restored and great atmosphere but that’s where it... stopped for us. I called to make a reservation over the phone after a friends’ recommendation. The hostess asked if we werecelebrating anything and I mentioned it was our anniversary dinner. Upon getting to the address, NO VALET at the front of thebuilding. For a place of this caliber I was shocked and disappointed. We had to drive around two blocks to find a parkinggarage. Walked to the restaurant and mentioned the lack of valet to the hostess and who seemed to be the manager at the front.No apology, just a “we have one on Calvert St.” mind you there’s no sign outside nor any mention when making a reservationby the staff. Completely inconvenient. No mention of our celebration nor anything out of the ordinary by the waiter and staff.The waiter was friendly but timid and very quiet even when we mentioned it was our first time. He didn’t go over the menu justasked if we were ready to order. The entire experience with him was awkward. He wanted feedback on the food during the meal andwanted to discuss the nuances and flavors. I just wanted to enjoy our food and my husband’s company. Food was okay, scallopswere undercooked, crab beignets were oily, risotto was sub par on taste. The Mexican chocolate mousse cake was great. To ourshock, the waiter set our leftover bag on the floor next to me. That was a first for sure. Did not meet the standard of theprice they set. Will not be coming back or recommending this place. Alexander Brown is located in an existing bank building in Downtown Baltimore that was renovated and now appears to be half fine... dining eatery and half art gallery. The interior and atmosphere is stunning, and is backed up by monogrammed china, excellentservice. This alone is probably a good reason to dine here. The menu and associated wine list were very well priced. The fooditself was enjoyable, but lacked a little something extra to make this restaurant one of the top fine dining places inBaltimore. My second visit to this restaurant was this evening for dinner with my first being lunch last week. Once you step inside this... building you are overwhelmed with the beauty. There is simply no other restaurant in Baltimore that comes close to this. Theservice is absolutely impeccable. The wait staff caters to your every need. The food is fabulous, drinks are made toperfection and the artwork.... stunning. The prices are absolutely fair for the city and you will get what you paid for. Themanager, Tad gave my son a tour and has extensive knowledge on the history of the Brown family and the building. Do yourself afavor, make a reservation here.
