We went here for dinner to celebrate the first day of school with my grade school aged kids this week. I was nervous because of... the mixed reviews but the location on the river is so nice when it's warm out that we took a chance. We went early (5:30) andhad a great experience. Pizza was excellent, calamari was only ok (but good enough, and cocktail sauce was nice and spicy). Prices were extremely reasonable and Sophia did a great job providing good service. We'll be back. Chose Pal Joey's because they moved back to their old location with a nice outside venue along the Fox River and local... musicians. When we arrived we asked for outside seating and were told they had none so were seated in their enclosed deck (verynoisy) overlooking outside. I noticed there were several vacant outside tables so wanted to ask the waitress if we could bereseated. For the next 25 minutes no waitress arrived at our table to take our order! Meanwhile I watched over 15 people beingseated outside after we arrived. So we moved to an outside table on our own. A waiter took our order within 5 minutes, deliveredour drinks in 15 more minutes, and then came back and informed us the kitchen was backed up for at least an hour and a half sowondered if we wanted to cancel our order. We did cancel our entres. He asked if my wife still wanted her cup of minestrone soupbut I would not be able to get my baked onion soup because it required a chef and was therefore subject to the 90 minute delay.A picture of my wife's minestrone soup is attached which is unlike any we have experienced at any Italian restaurant. While wewaited for our check, I ordered a pizza from Riverside to pick up on the way home so at least we did get to eat that night!Needless to say, this was our last visit to Pal Joey's! Read more

Dismal and disappointing for sure. We should have stayed home for dinner - what a disaster. On almost every level this... restaurant disappoints. We were able to get a reservation at 5pm for 6:30pm on a Saturday night, which was one of the onlypositives. After being seated, we waited 20 minutes while servers buzzed from table to table taking orders refilling waters etc.yet no one came to our table to ask if our waitress had been there etc. We felt like we were in an episode of ?Curb YourEnthusiasm?? After this time I flagged down a bus boy and explained our situation. After 5 minutes a waitress appeared and asked?is someone helping you?? She took our order. After sitting there another 40 minutes our food arrived. Luke warm. My husband?spasta was flavorful and my salad was also crisp & fresh. Two other positives. They have plenty of waitstaff but no food runnersand it?s completely disorganized because it wasn?t that busy.
