Over the past two months, the food and service has significantly declined. The workers do not greet or acknowledge you for long... periods of time. The food quality is also poor. During my recent visit, my husband and I ordered two burgers all the way. Bothburgers were paper thin and drenched in Mayo. When I pointed it out to waitress, she walked over to cook and told him. Hemumbled under his breath and continued cooking. The waitress never came back to table. I asked for owners name and number, andno worker knew who the owner was. I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt with the pandemic in effect, but thisrestaurant seems to get worse each time I visit. At this point, I will take my business elsewhere. Read more

After hearing that Highway 55 was open again we decided to try it once again. We know that it is now supposed to be closed once... a week for cleaning, but we went on a Tuesday night during what should have been operating hours. The doors were locked. Afterreading the reviews, I can see that, months ago, the problem was partly because the manager didn't read reviews completely. Evenwhen reviews were bad, he/she replied with a thank you. Big clue. ! hope that, if/when you reopen, the current manager, or newmanager will read the reviews completely. Maybe it is felt that we are a low priority be size we have fewer resodents than yourother locations, but with new growth expected, we need our Highway 55 to shine. We were recently in Elizabeth City. We saw thebeautiful Highway 55 there. However, we chose NOT to eat there because of the lack of care given to the Belhabenlocation. Whether it be money, wait staff training, or onsite manager, a better focus on improvement here could bring you better profits elsewhere, as well. Read more

I wish I would have read the reviews prior to attempting to eat at this restaurant. We are visiting Belhaven from out of town... (Charlotte.) We decided to eat here for our first night out since many of us have eaten at other Hwy 55?s back home. If I couldgive a rating of negative stars I would. We have never been treated so poorly before even sitting down to place an order. Afterentering the restaurant we stood waiting for someone to even acknowledge our presence. No one ever did. We decided to sit downat a booth. I could see and hear the wait staff at the back of the kitchen beginning to argue about which one of them were goingto wait on us. Neither waiter wanted to serve us. They continued to argue in plain sight and by this time the rest of my partybecame aware of what was happening. One of the waiters said ?fine, I?ll do it.? By this time we decided to leave and findsomewhere else to eat. My mother is from Michigan and was very appalled by this showcase of southern hospitality. I think thisrestaurant needs an overhaul by ?Restaurant Impossible.? Read more

We had eaten at the store in Washington the day before. We also had eaten the exact same meal and it was "hands down" awesome.... Belhaven- The Cole slaw was rotten like it had been left out all day and night. Even had a bad smell. The hamburger steak tastedterrible. The gravy peppers & onions was one big clump. I even took a photo. I asked the waitress if that was supposed to begravy and she stated yes but it didnt look right. We heard her say something to the cook about it. It wasn't clumpy like itneeded some water added like usual, it was straight up NOT normal. Ya know, I raved about this place when the new managers tookover. Because for once the food was actually great. Then the newness wore off. Another time we had got some hamburgers and themeat was rotten and stunk so bad. It was take out. I even called back up there to tell an employee they may need to pull themeat. I didnt ask for a refund. I didnt ask for more food. Just didnt want them serving rotten meat to anyone else and Godforbid if somebody had got sick. But I shouldve known at that moment that Hwy55 was back to it's normal self. We are locals andeat out often. I can assure you we will not be stepping foot back inside that place. I just wish the owners could have seen andtasted the food that night. I would be ashamed to have my employees serve food of the sorts. But hey, they dont know what'sgoing on if nobody shares their experiences. This is the exact same reason we quit going when old management had it. The food! Those young kids dont care what they do in that store or how long foods left out etc. Their kids...and there just trying to earna paycheck. I've worked with the general public for 30 yrs and I know you cant please everyone and people will complain. Butthis isnt just complaining, this is spoiled rotten food and if someone doesnt step in soon, then somebody's going to end up withfood poisoning or worse. Maybe the owner needs to send a few incognito friends inside for dinner a fe Read more

It was after 2:00 in the afternoon and there were not any other customers in when we get there and all of the tables were dirty!... I can promise you that none of them had been wiped off since the lunch crowd had left! I had to ask for the table to be wipedoff! There were 3 waitresses on duty and I never saw a single table get wiped down while we were there. The food was okay, oncewe got it. Read more
