June 8, 2022, 11months ago I was there. Today I was there and the food was great and the service by Erica was great. What I... found out very disturbing was that the 18% tip was included in the bill. The first bill given was the total for the food. I leftcash tip of $23.00 for server who did an excellent job. I just called a few minutes when I got home and was told can't reversetip but can give me the cash back. As a business owner it doesn't make sense. I will not be going back to restaurant. When theygive you receipt they give you total but don't give you receipt back of what you spent unless you ask for it. I assumed when Irequested receipt it would be ok but when I got in my car I noticed the 18% added. That means it is 36% tip. That is why I amgiven a 1 because of how sneaky they were. All customers much check price before leaving a tip and request originalreceipt. The food was good and the service as well. A little pricey for the food but can't complain when our server made surewe were enjoying our meal. Read more
Update 2022 They really improved things. The Caribbean chicken is still good but they're using smaller pieces then they used to.... The rice with pigeon peas is excellent. Service is a lot better. The beef stew is soft now but it doesn't have a lot ofvinegar like carribean food usually does. update 9/2019 My last 3 delivery experiences were terrible. I received plaintain rawstill part pink inside, i eat green Banana (guinero) often this times it seems like it was slow cool boiled not water. Irequested garlic for the tostones when I recieved my delivery I was told I had to pay $1 for that. Why not just charge it as aside. Plus I only needed 1 which would have been .50 cents. the meat was excellent. I think the issue is on Sundays Mexicanworkers may mot be familiar with caribbean cuisine. Its an issue in a lot of Dominican places in the Bronx, Sunday food is notas good. There is a smart mouth Dominican guy every time I speak with him I know there is going to be a problem. I called tocheck of my order was received he could have just told me to come down with an extra dollar. I locked myself out accidentallyto get the food they never ring a bell no matter how much the tip or how many parking spaces. the tostones were replaced withmore raw and oily soggy plantain. Nicer atmosphere than many for dinner to sit in. But like most food is a a littleinconsistent. Today my half roasted chicken is usually dry. Today it was not. My experience is to avoid the beef guisado...dry. I often get the caribbean chicken. Its usually the safest consistency. Better than Steven's (sorry). UPDATE: 11/13/18 Iappreciate the owner response. I look forward to going there more and trying more food. I had stopped going there for like ayear. So maybe everything not just the chicken has improved. The food was good. The waitress needs training on dealing with the public. We sat down, never asked if we wanted anything to... drink. Ask for our food order and walk away. Food came out in a reasonable time frame, we had to ask for drinks. One of thethings I didn?t care for is that they include the tip and if you don?t look at the bill properly you will tip them twice, theydon?t tell you this. Tips should be according to the service not obligated if you?re not happy with the service. This is whythey don?t go out of the way because they know their tip is already included.Also, if you pay by card they add another 3.99% toyour card. Won?t be patronizing this cafe again. Read more
