Hidden gem for sashimi! Genki Ya is pretty unassuming on the outside. It is equally unassuming within. Staff are friendly, but... it looks like most sushi places you may have been to around Boston. However, one should only judge sushi on the quality of thefish and this is where Genki Ya shines. Their sashimi is some of the most tasty and freshest that I have tried in Boston--at anyprice point. The fact that they are relatively inexpensive is a bonus. Maki rolls are mostly of the standard variety, but arewell made, but some of their special makis will surprise you. Went to this place hearing the good reviews. We were seated quickly but it took a good 40 minutes for the server to take our... order and another 45 minutes to receive the food. The teriyaki beef that they served was very tough and rubbery, lacked anyflavor. The sushi was average. The Mai tai was watered down and not aesthetically appealing too. No one came to check on us tosee how the food was or how we were doing. Also waited another half an hour for the dishes to be cleared and for the check.Overall it was an unpleasant experience for a place I had higher expectations for. The server ran behind us to ask where’s thetip? In a rude manner as if he was entitled to receive it regardless. I replied calmly that the service was poor, and he saidsomething under his breath rather than clarifying what was lacking. Train your staff to deliver prompt service, to be polite tocustomers and make them feel welcome in the first place. Quality of food must be improved based on the menu prices. My favorite place for delicious sushi, sashimi and special rolls. The presentation is impeccable, even when packaged to go.... Everything is made with fresh ingredients and they have some very creative rolls I haven't seen at other places. I'm a big fanof spicy scallop roll, creative, interestingly refreshing and delightfully light. Read more
