Small place but well worth it. You have a choice of doing the tasting menu's or ordering from the regular menu. We opted for the regular menu. The watermelon and tomato salad was incredible. Next was the wagyu strip steak. To die for! By the way, thats where we get our wagyu from too. I really liked how chef came out and greeted the tables as well. For a 300 plus dinner, way worth it.
We?re from NYC and have an appreciation for fine dining and this place exceeded our high expectations. John, mike and Ryan let us close down the restaurant - excellent service. The food was delicious (highlights were the tagliatelle, short rib and prime rib). Drinks were also on point. The whole vibe was excellent, too - the open kitchen concept showed off how much fun the chefs were having. Will be back when we return to old Lyme!
I rarely write reviews but this was one of the most memorable meals i?ve ever had. Such an incredible gem on the CT shoreline - we did the 5 course tasting menu which not only offered an incredible culinary journey with some of the best bites ive ever had, but also was such a friendly and inviting atmosphere with 5 star service. Its an open kitchen so we got to learn from and get to know the chefs preparing our meals which was such a treat. All in all couldnt be happier and will recommend this to all friends, family and beyond. We?ll also be back next week!
We really enjoyed the experience! New location looks great, cozy and fun. The staff were great and chef checked in on us. The cocktails were crafted, not just thrown together, and we're great. We went with the five course chef's menu and were very impressed with the flavors. There were bonus apps, dessert and complimentary champagne for our daughter's birthday; although not the ideal place to celebrate a 21st. The right amount of food for all except our growing seventeen year old. We would highly recommend!
Wonderful experience tonight. Yes to exceptionally thought-provoking food (dry aged tuna and cured egg yolk?!?!? Yes. And it works!). And the bar program curated by Bartender John. Unobtrusive but always there when you need him. A great listener and pays interest to your interests. Thank you, John for a great evening and a great education on cocktails. Wonderful ambience. The full package for a relaxing and memorable evening. Can?t wait to dine again.
Book now ! This was a great surprise! The 'new' Essex is not to be missed if you live locally? or are just passing through. From the beginning to the end of the meal, it was served to perfection. The Essex has an inviting, open-kitchen concept with front row viewing seats. Our bartender and waiter (John & Peter) tonight were knowledgeable and helpful with the constantly changing menu. There is no room for boredom on this menu. The drinks and wine menu are delicious and inventive. Overall great dining and cool vibe. We even got to meet Colt, the executive chef and owner. Cool guy and down-to-earth personality. Cheers to Chef Colt and his team for bringing this restaurant to Downtown Old Saybrook. CT. Lisa and I can't wait to come back and enjoy another amazing food experience! Location: Colt?s new restaurant is located across the street from ?The Kate? / The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center. Also, a great place for pre-Theater Dining?
Delicious food It?s a very small restaurant with congested sittings. Price is high. We went there for dinner on Friday at 6. Reservation is must. We had Chicken, Steak, Lobster & Beet Fusilli, Clam Chowder. Food was delicious, it took a while to get the food but we didn?t mind as we were not in hurry. The service was very good.
This restaurant! We just keep coming back for more. It is such a foodie experience with exceptional service, amazing wine and drinks, and the absolute best food we?ve found in Connecticut since moving from nyc! We drive from mystic every two weeks and the menu is always changing but somehow keeps getting more exciting! Props to the chef owner who has so much talent and is always making his way through the dining room welcoming his guests! The Caribbean menu blew us away! Conch fritters like THAT?! yes please! And don?t even get us started on the fish. The freshest most exciting twists and turns you can imagine! Ps? jerk chicken not for the spice intolerant? but absolutely worth the risk!
Dive into a new experience with food and allow The Essex to bring you something special. We have options for every member of the family to explore! We are located in Centerbrook, feel free to explore our restaurant menu!
