This is a great piece of property here in virginia. We find the wines to be pretty decent and the prices to be on par with other... Vineyards in the area. The food is decent quality although a very limited menu as you would expect from a winery. There's a lotof outdoor space around the back to accommodate large groups. The staff has been very helpful and services on point. Somethingto keep in mind, they do not allow pets on the property. I know a lot of Wineries and breweries will allow you to bring yourfour-legged friends, not this place. Read more
First time visiting today and will be back! The drive from Richmond along Route 5 is just beautiful. Parking at Upper Shirley... was plentiful and easy and lots of people were also riding their bikes along the capital trail. Really pretty spot, nice wineand good food. You can order at the counter or from an online menu wherever you?re seated. Drinks came out fast but we waitedabout an hour for our food order. Not a problem since it was a beautiful day and we were enjoying ourselves, but this isn?t aplace to be in a hurry. Clean bathrooms, nice staff. No pets or outside food and beverage. Such a hidden gem! The shrimp and grits was amazing and very filling. The flatbread and shrimp/asparagus bisque were delightful!
Classic colonial feel and great fare. Both the truffle fries and oysters Rockefeller were well-prepared. Their gas fireplace was... a popular seat on a cold windy day. I can see this venue must be popular during spring and can accommodate large groups. Bthwine tasting bar and tables offer views of the plantation next door.. Wine sampler is exactly that but gives a great descriptionof each varietal as well as an opportunity to give you a lead on which wines you would like to drink by the glass or bottle.Being partial to red wines, our favorite was the petit verdot.
