Fantastic bakery with even nicer people. We stopped in twice on our visit to Charlottesville the pastries were that good! Highly... recommend the apricot Danish, chocolate croissants, and above all else the cream puffs, the Bavarian cream was the best I haveever had! 4.5 stars for the cakes and 1 for the customer service, which lends the final three stars for my experience at ABC. The store is... renowned for its cakes, bread, and pastries, which is well demonstrated by the variety of pastry choices you can find in thestore. They have seasonal cakes (Raspberry Wonder for summer and The Shenandoah for fall) that speak for the chef'screativity. The problem with my experience was how the staff (or at least the ones I interacted with) seemed to treat customersbased on their looks. I arrived before an older gentleman, yet was nonchalantly 'pushed over' from my counter so that they coulduse it for him (while the other counter is open anyway). The gentleman drove a Cadillac and appeared very familiar with thestore (I only visited the store to get cakes on special occasions). The staffs also have trouble with foreign-sounding names andlack the courtesy skill to maneuver through the situation. While subtle, I felt unappreciated as a customer. If you appear whiteand/or wealthy (regular patrons or dress/drive nicely), your service will be prioritized. Update: I appreciate that the ownerreached out to me to learn more about my perspectives from this particular visit. Albeit this experience may have been an honestmistake by the staff due to variable factors (such as busy hour, unclear customer arrival order, and others), I hope the staffswould be more mindful in their interactions with both regular and non-regular customers. My favorite place to buy a cake. I bought my first cake from them in 2008 for my birthday and have been coming back ever since.... They even made my wedding cake. They have been consistently delicious throughout many, many years. It's clear they have a highstandard of excellence that they strive to adhere to. I still haven't tried all their baked goods but I'm working on it. Read more

Knowing that it would likely be busy, I ordered online at about 1000 for pickup. I went at about 1010 on a Saturday morning.... When I got there I still had to wait in the line even though my order was prepaid. By the time I got to the counter it was 1030.The person that waited on me was friendly but they asked me where my order was located in the store which struck me as odd...Turns out that my order hadn't been picked yet. I do not recommend ordering online. The chocolate croissants were large but notvery chocolatey. Their bacon and swiss croissants were awesome though! Read more
