Food is more expensive these days but Avenue Bistro could do better with their fish and chips offering. 1 piece of halibut and... fries was $26 and a "side" of coleslaw was an extra $2. The fish was OK but a bit dry. The batter was light but not exceptional(it was take out but we ate within 10 minutes). All in all, the box was pretty disappointing on opening: especially if one ishungry, which I was. The piece of fish was small and the offering of fries was dismal and so much so that I thought it was amistake but all 3 orders fell to the same meagre level. OK, halibut is pricey but fries aren't. The most lame element was the"side" of coleslaw - it was served in a tiny plastic cup the same size as the tartar sauce - about 1-2 tablespoons (not anexaggeration - it was about 1 mouthful). Cabbage is cheap so perhaps they could loosen up a little on the portion size. Inoverview, pretty disappointing as I'd heard many say it was a great place to eat in Comox. Maybe they're catering to the retireecrowd that want a smaller meal but for the price, these must be well-to-do retirees. I won't be heading back - value for $ wasdismal. Excellent service as always, the host & server were both wonderful. Cocktails were fantastic too. Unfortunately both our main... meals were lacking ~ Malaysian Sockeye was very light tasting & small portion of fish and the Italian Ragout was vinegary & toosalty. We didn't have the energy to send the food back & explain so made the best of it & ate as we were hungry. Dessert wasexcellent. Not sure we will return as each entree was ~ $30 & both were disappointing, unfortunate as our previous experiencehas been good, though it's been some time. Read more
