If details matter to you, The Dark Horse will set a new threshold for dining in Defiance! Everything about this place is... carefully crafted, stylishly decorated, and comfortably furnished. The class and ambience of an urban eatery, with thefriendliness of familiar hometown faces. And the food...! There is nowhere else in Defiance where you can find seasonallycurated entrees like those at Dark Horse. I tend to be a creature of habit when it comes to food, so when I find a menu itemthat I love, I'll order it again and again. The Margherita flatbread was my favorite summer go-to, the fresh basil bring thecrown jewel. My husband, with his love of olives of every variety, chose the flatbread topped with a gourmet variety, andenjoyed every bite. We have tried the charcuterie as well, and enjoyed its variety, especially the cheeses. Served on woodencutting boards, the presentation is practical yet special. Water is served in tall vintage-looking glasses, accompanied by acarafe for replenishment. And real silver-plate flatware! Such a nice touch! We've also recently had brunch at The Dark Horse,and I highly recommend it. I had the spinach-mushroom quiche, and he chose a breakfast tart with flaky pastry base, bacon, and asunny side up egg. Both were excellent. And there is so much more to try! Brunch featured classical music in the background, anda sunny view of Triangle Park just past the original brick sidewalk out front. It made for a delightful experience. Quiet,relaxed, and beautiful - this lovingly and creatively restored historic building, once cigar factory, then photography studio,now has new life as a chic new downtown eatery that is welcoming and relaxing (especially the back lawn in summer!), as well asproviding deliciously different choices for your eating (and drinking) pleasure.
