Visited Tumea for my birthday dinner on 22nd July 2022. One star down for slow service at the beginning after we were seated and... for the Cocktail prawns because I did not like the taste. Went on a Friday at 530. Seated right away. Decor is vintage, religious, family style. Seemed clean, including the bathroom.... Lots of young staff members and a few of the owners family working. Frank Sinatra music playing in the background. We didn'thave as much time as we would have liked so we ordered a half order of onion rings and an Italian sandwich with a side salad andhouse dressing. BF ordered a greyhound which they came back and said they didn't have the syrup for. A greyhound is vodka andgrapefruit juice so we just shared what it is and they brought his drink back. We were underwhelmed with the food. The onionrings didn't seem completely cooked. The sandwich bread was crazy dry. However the house salad dressing is AMAZING! We eat herea few times a year and I want to love it as it is a Des Moines staple. But....it's always just okay. And a little over ourprice point for okay food. Read more

I've been eating here for over a decade and I've never had a bad meal...just the opposite..if you want to know the essence of... Italian food in this town then Tumea's should be on your check list...Mario, Louie and Joe make it like you want to eat it. Thedaily lunch special is always affordable and delicious.
