Our party of nine enjoyed a fabulous lunch at The Gris! The inn was beautifully decorated for the holidays, the food selections... were vast, and everyone commented on how delicious each choice was. Our waitress, Erin O., was terrific! She was efficient, friendly, and she graciously accommodated special requests with a wonderful sense-of-humor. The Griswold Inn truly offers aunique dining experience in a genuine New England setting. Lona Jortner Read more

Ambiance is amazing at this place, history drips from the walls. Food is solid, a bit pricey, but the ambiance is worth it. ... Service at the front of the house is the weak spot. There were amazing people like Ines, who is sadly gone, and there is stillmostly excellent service now, but then you get someone like Rita who was recently unpleasant and just plain lazy andunfortunately drags everybody down. I will be the first to admit we were an almost difficult group of 11 and the service was good for the most part, you could tell... the kid was really trying to make us happy. But things didn't start off well when we were promised a private room when we madeour reservation but were placed in the main dining hall. Things continued to go down hill when our food came out in a verydisjointed and staggered way (we all ordered our meals at the same time). One of our entrees was completely forgotten and therunner kept trying to bring us other top's orders. You could tell the communication between the back and front of house wasdisorganized at best. After a very long wait to get our first entree it took a little over half an hour for the last entree toarrive. Everyone's food was cold, especially the French fries that came with the kid's meals. I ordered the baked prosciuttowrapped prawns. The grain salad underneath was cold and the prawns were overcooked. No one was satisfied with their meals.Overall the food was not great, but the drinks were good and the band was phenomenal. I wouldn't recommend this place for dinnerbut it's great for a neat atmosphere and after work drinks. Read more

The Old Gris, in the old town of Essex, was excellent! Mid to higher priced menu, but food, and especially the service, in the... Tap Room were excellent . Relaxing atmosphere. Tried the 3 sausage sampler, and our request for a side of their garlic baseddressing, was promptly agreed to. The French Dip with fries was shared between 2, was heavily stacked with meat and definitelyworth the price. Again, the friendly, enthusiatic server made the meal great. Read more

Loved it here! First the Turkey Sandwich was amazing! My daughter had a very good cheese burger. Fish Tacos was also a hit at... our table! Everyone loved the fries as well. Everyone ate everything on their plate so it was a family win! The atmosphere is sobeautiful here! They also had someone playing beautiful music on the piano and they had a cool popcorn machine. We enjoyed ourvisit and I would come back again. There seating system is finding an available seating yourself. Read more
