Fish and chips are great. Don?t bother with clam chowder. It?s often luke warm (not safe for a creamy soup) and most of the time... there are no potatoes or clams. I?d be ashamed to charge $5 for a bowl of clam chowder with no clams. Edit on 9/26/22: I giveup. I have asked to make sure there are clams and potatoes every time I get the chowder. Today there are plenty of potatoes -undercooked, almost raw, no clams, and it is cold. I?m done with Newmans. I notice they respond to positive reviews, but don?tbother with negative ones. Love love love this place. We always get the cod and the salmon, with tartar and cocktail sauces. The fish is fantastic, always... tastes fresh and the portions are consistent and reasonable for the price. The way the food is wrapped up in waxed butcher paperkeeps it hot for a good while, so it doesn't matter if you have a longer trip home with takeout. The tartar sauce is simple butwell made: thick and creamy, lightly seasoned, not too heavy on dill or pickle. Cocktail sauce is the same: good ketchup flavorand just the right horseradish kick. The food is good and they have outdoor seating, but the area around where you order inside was noticeably very dirty. That is... pretty unusual for a food place and it makes me wonder how dirty it is where we can't see. The cashier was very friendly. Wegot the fried cod and the fried salmon. The cod was better. Best fish and chips around. The cod is fresh and without a heavy batter. The fries are pretty good too. The Cole slaw is... somewhat bland but if you're wanting fish and chips I'm guessing that really isn't a big issue. Highly recommend Newman's. Read more
