We were traveling through the area and a local recommended we see the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and stop by Old... Salty?s. What a great recommendation. We pulled into the parking lot where a wedding was obviously about to begin (great venue!)and bypassed the outside tiki bar for the interior bar hoping to catch some NCAA football. The staff was very busy with thewedding and catering but took immediate care of us. We ended up staying over 6 hours watching football, drinking beer and eatingsome amazing food (must try the baked pineapple!!). The bartender/manager Jeff was a hoot and although he was slammed, took thebest care of us. All of the staff was great and you can tell they enjoy working for such a great place. The owners - Matt andMelissa- AMAZING! They both took time to come chat with us and share their stories. The food was great too! We shared the crabcake covered with imperial sauce, grilled with mozzarella sauce and made with love. If you?ve read this far of this review - letme just mention the sunset ????. Fantastic seafood and family restaurant on Hooper's Island MD. Cream of crab soup was outstanding. The best crab cake I have... ever had. All crab, no filler at all. Great desserts as well. A bit of a drive, but worth it. Great place to go after timespent at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Great staff. Plenty of parking. You need to go. Highly recommended. Read more
Beat the rain down here. Great Cream of Crab with lump and old bay. Crab dip was good too. Crab balls were excellent but could... been in fryer for 30 more seconds. My fiancée and I stopped in for lunch yesterday and had an awesome experience. While we were a little surprised by the higher ... than expected price point, after enjoying the fresh as hell seafood, we understand one must pay for quality! Killer crab cakesandwich; all meat, no filler. AMAZING soft shell crab sandwich too; perfectly, lightly fried (not one, but TWO crabs on whitebread with lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo). Our server cracked us up with her myriad of stories and local, small-town pride.We highly recommend! Ps. The seafood at Old Salty's was pretty good. The best were the fresh raw oysters, the breadless mini crab cakes and the Jumbo... Lump Imperial. The prime rib was also a winner; it had to be ordered days in advance to ensure proper ageing and seasoning.However, other items on the menu were just okay, especially given the price point (e.g., the broiled salmon and the seafoodplatter, which weren't much to write home about). So while most food was very worthy, on the day we visited, the atmosphere wasjust okay, and the service was most lacking. We were seated almost immediately, but then had to wait close to an hour for ourfood. There was insufficient waitstaff to accommodate larger parties and they--rather than than the bartender(s)--were alsoresponsible for mixing cocktail drinks for dining patrons! There were long delays in responding to simple requests such asadditional drink straws or hot water for tea. All of the above result the average (C-) score I give to Old Salty's in FishingCreek, MD.
