I was excited to go to the new location of the old Casa de Tamales, now CDT. We were there last for Christmas tamales when they... were selling out of the back door of their present location. It is a beautiful place, much better than their former storefront... I wanted to love it like I used to love their food, but alas, it was not the same: the sweet corn tamale was notsweet and rather dry, even after pouring the sauce over it. The rice was undercooked and did not have much taste. My sons didenjoy their chicken tamales and the vegan portobello and the artichoke and spinach, as well as the jalapeño and cheese, Thesaving grace was the chips & guacamole, which had a nice bite to it, but too many onions. Great location in Tower. Parking in a lot just next to the building. Good little shop size, hope they open up their back patio.... If you have a group over 8, call ahead and let them know. Seating is a premium otherwise. The food is delicious, the staff issuper helpful and accommodating. We had several people both gluten and corn free and they were more than happy to make changesand serve them. A dedicated gluten free Facility that knows how to handle items to prevent cross contamination is a wonderfulfind here. We ordered some of the family meals to feed a bunch of kids and parents. Everything was stellar and even picky kidshad no qualms. Their cauliflower tacos and carnitas tamales stood out for me. The cauliflower was crispy, not oily at all. Fullof flavor and filling. The tamales were fluffy and held together well. Everything tasted fresh and had a depth of flavor youcan?t often find in foods with restrictions.
