Texas BBQ stop #3 was at @zavalasbarbecue. Although it wast your normal bbq stop. They don't serve your standard bbq until... Thursday but they do open early Tuesday and Wednesday from 6am til 11am for breakfast tacos and coffee. I had an absolute greattime here. Even though Joe and the Mrs were not onsite yet at open I did meet Paul, Joes father in law. What a great guy. Weshot the breeze for quite a while this morning and when he found out I was down for work from NY he offered to take me out backwhere the magic happens. They have 3 1k gal Pits with 2 in the smoke house and one out back which is where they normally cookthe briskets and butts. I feel bad that I didn't catch the pit masters name but he was also fantastic and showed me around thePits and got a peek at tomorrows briskets. These guys were super awesome and can't say enough about the staff inside as well. I ended up getting a brisket Taco cause they didn't have turkey ready yet. When Paul went to leave he went in and got his gruband came back out and asks me which one I had. When I told him he then presented me with a turkey Taco from his own stash. Ifyou are in the area you can't pass up a trip here. Just talking with some of the staff and other customers makes it worthwhile. If you couldn't tell they left an awesome impression on me. Fantastic!!! Little hole in the wall restaurant, with big barbecue taste! We had an assortment of different meats and sides. The... brisket ends were the best, I was only able to get one, the crew I was with scarfed them down in a blink of an eye. Brisket wasso tender and juicy, I may have dreams. Turkey, ribs and sausages were all good. Best sides for me beans and spicy coleslaw withhominy next. I didn't get to try the potato salad, everyone else ate it up but all said that was the best, so I really need tocome back for that. They also have breakfast and coffee early and I need to make the extra trip for that next time. So good, youhave to come here. Read more
I had 0 expectations coming here and tbh I came here looking for dulce enchilados. I did not find the dulce but I did find prob... the best BBQ in dfw area. This was 40mins from me and the drive was so worth it. First off, the staff is overwhelmingly nice andhumble. I love that every employee interacts with their customers. Thank you, I don't think I could say thank you for today. Towho ever the put master is/was today, thank you for being so kind. The jalapeño poppers were def worth it and they didn't makeit back to the car (ha). The meats are so moist and well seasoned. I love that Zavala's pays homage to their city by honoringfallen PD and supporting local breweries. Their green sauce is def a little spicy but super good. The parking can be a littlecrowded during peak times but that should def say something about this place. We decided to eat our leftovers later this eveningand the meats were still super tender. The brisket boudin is different but still really good. I was told to get the spicy Coleslaw and hominy (now that I know what it is haha) next time. First time here on a Saturday morning. We arrived around 1130am & there was a line outside the door! Parking is a bit tricky too... but not impossible. Plenty of room towards the back. Since it was our first time we got a bit of everything. The brisket, beefcheek and beef fajita were our top favorites. All these meats are seasoned and smoked beautifully, very tender and lots offlavors coming through with every bite. Brisket sausage and the jalapeno & cheese sausage were amazing too, each link wasgenerously filled with meat and the smokey flavor comes through. Lastly, we had the sloppy Juan, i think the meats were acombination of pulled pork and chopped brisket- it was perfect. The bottled sloppy Juan sauce added a bit of tang but both meatswere so flavorful that it didn't really need the sauce. Tortillas come in 3, 6 or 12 pcs - definitely get 'em! Read more
