My wife and I visited Hickory Tavern for the first time last night. I was a bit surprised that a sports bar was empty on a... Saturday night during college football season. We were seated right away by a host, but waited nearly 15 minutes for awaiter/waitress to attend to us. We noticed that out of the entire restaurant, there were only two waitresses working all 8tables that had guests. Along with two waitresses, there was one bartender, and then about 4 guys (waiters?) who werejust...standing there. Not working, not checking on guests. They were just standing near a table, on their phones, andoccasionally looking at us and other guests. As we were about to say "screw it" and leave, a waitress came over to apologize forthe long wait, say there was some "confusion" in the kitchen, and got out drink order. Then, one of those guys that had justbeen standing there not working appeared with an order of "complimentary" BBQ nachos and gave them to us. We ate those whilewatching football. Waitress came back 5 minutes later with our waters, and got our food order. After she wrote it down, shewarned us that the kitchen is "slow." We noticed our drinks had been sitting at the bar for about 10 minutes before our waitressnoticed and brought them to us. Our food came out at a reasonable time, and it was okay. Our waitress didn't check on us whileeating our food. We noticed that she wasn't at any other table either. We finished our food, continued to watch football, andwaited another solid 10 minutes before our waitress asked if we wanted our check. We said yes, and she responded "I'll get thatas soon as I can." Which we would've understood if she was busy attending other tables...but she wasn't. She just went back tothe kitchen and disappeared for another 5-10 minutes. During that time, we noticed a party of 4 had come in and had the sameissue as us -- waited 15 minutes for a waitress to even get their drink order. As they were about to say "screw it" that one guy(I' Read more

We have gone to Hickory 4-5 times and it seems to go down hill each time. Tonight?s to go order was missing a lot of ingredients... stated on each item depiction. No chicken on the chicken nachos. Smokehouse burger was missing the mushrooms and onion straws.Chicken tender were burnt along with very little sweet potatoe fries. For the money we did not receive the quality or thequantity as if we were in the restaurant. Not sure what?s going on with Hickory Tavern in Holly Springs. It?s getting worse andworse lately Read more

I always enjoy my meals at Hickory Tavern. The food is good but it's the servers and employees that keep me coming back. I... usually order their quesadillas for an appetizer and a sandwich for my main course but this last time I tried the CedarSalmon. The salmon was very tasty but overcooked by about one minute that took it from 5 out of 5 to a 3 out of 5. I take 2points off based on the fact that salmon is very easy to cook properly and when overcooked, like the one I was served, is easyto see from looking at it. It never should have been sent out that way and leads me to believe that whoever was cooking that dayis not a real chef. Don't get me wrong, it was still delicious but, would have been perfect if cooked to the propertemperature. I will return, often, since I enjoy the atmosphere, employees and the food Read more

Fine place to go for some basic tavern fare. The service was quick and our waitress was very nice and attentive. The food was a... bit lackluster, especially for the pricing. For those who want to go to a tavern to watch some sports, there are plenty of TVs,but most weren't working (may have been because of the rainstorm). Good atmosphere, things were relatively calm even though itwas decently busy. I ordered Linda's Turkey Melt, which had good turkey but needed some pickles or a good sauce, something toadd a bit more to it than just turkey and cheese and onion. Hubby got the Philly, which was ok. There was no seasoning and theveggies were overcooked so they were rather soft. Kiddos got the mac'n'cheese and the chicken quesadilla. The Mac lookedexactly like boxed Kraft Mac. At least the quesadilla was pretty filled with chicken. All the sides were kind of meh, andeverything was pretty heavy on salt. The tater tots were the best side, probably because hubby ordered them extra crispy. Mytavern chips were mostly floppy, so they were deep fried enough. And the fries could have used a bit longer deep frying as well. Read more
