I want to love this place, but twice I've ordered take-out in person, and twice they've gotten the order wrong. The first time,... I checked, told them, they took it back and brought it back out. I went home, and ... it was the same order. Nothing fixed. Ihad to repeat, standing there in person, numerous times what I wanted. The second time was last night. The waitress asked methree times what sides I wanted with two dinners, while answering the phone, running around the rooms, talking, (and there wasonly one table with two customers). She'd come back and say, "I'm sorry, what did you want again? Three times. She repeated itback and still got it wrong. I corrected it. When I got home, yep, wrong order. Same sides for both dinners, when I clearlystated the different sides. We wanted to eat, and so I didn't return or call back. I also ordered the green fried tomatoes, andthey were inedible; I had to trash them. Tasted like rotten tomatoes. I'm sorry to write this review, but this is an ongoingproblem. Amazing food, good sized portions, and reasonable prices! My husband had the trio- catfish, crabcakes, and shrimp and loved it!... Also came with fries and a couple hushpuppies. Kids had burgers and chicken nuggets and loved them. Potato wedges were good, andthe red beans and rice... mmmmmmmmmmm! Wish we could eat there again soon, but way too far from home for us! Read more
It's an unassuming place but the food is phenomenal. Everything we ordered from the hand made patties to the freshly breaded... chicken strips(!!) tasted amazing. So glad we passed through and decided to try. 'Kids' portions are big enough to feed an adultbut they've got platter options for a group. Read more
Independence Kansas today at lunch time on my way home. Saw this place on the way in to town at hit it on the way out. This... place is a great find and worth the stop if between KC from Tulsa. Only a couple of miles off from the 169. The place lookedvery low key and I was stopping in for a late lunch at 2pm so it was not busy when I arrived with only one other table withcustomers. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Ordered the 3 piece fried fish and 3 piece fried oysters with red beans and riceand green beans as sides. Service was fast Food arrive and it was piping hit straight out of the dryer. The portion size washuge. 3 really big pieces of catfish and oysters. The breading was southern style with cornmeal. Breaking open the crust steamand juices came gushing out of the oysters. Delicious. The star today however was the catfish. Perfectly cooked and moist.Seasoning was spot on with the right amount of breading. Their tartar sauce was the perfect complement with the meal and thehush puppies were not shabby either. Sometimes some restaurants neglect their sides but not Sam's. They were taking care ofbusiness today. The green beans were pretty good but the red beans and rice was amazing. Get this this as a side if ordering ameal....highly recommended. Sadly I was so stuffed I couldn't eat any more and had to pass on ordering the fried pies thewaitress recommended.
