The Iowa Chop House in Iowa City was really good. The staff was friendly and atmosphere was nice. The Bacon Board appetizer with... double cut, maple glazed bacon was incredible and the Crab Cakes were really good as well. The Beef Filet Mignon steak with BleuCheese Crust was absolutely perfect. And the Crème Brûlée was tasty. Will definitely visit again when I’m in Iowa Cityagain. Read more
This experience was disappointing at best, my husband had been here previously for a takeout order and had a very mediocre meal.... Upon my insistence, we went back again to give the place another shot. We ordered the bison meatballs, the kale and artichokedip, the rib eye, green beans on the side, a garden salad, the salmon with rice pilaf and a tiramisu. The only thing worthmentioning is the green beans, although they were a bit on the salty side. The rib eye wasn’t evenly cooked, meat wasaverage and my husband had to keep spitting out the cartilage because it was too chewy, it was overly salted and it has nobusiness being in a steakhouse. The salmon was over cooked and incredibly dry, the rice pilaf was more like a wild rice risottoand it would’ve been average had the salmon been cooked the right way. The appetizers were good, although the meatballs weresmothered in way too much sugar laden barbecue sauce and the ‘crostini’ for the dip was just grilled slabs of french bread. DO NOT GET THE TIRAMISU, I don’t know what that is, but it’s rip off and wasn’t edible. We informed the waiterthat something was off about it, he took it back to the kitchen and avoided coming back to our table for the night. Up untilthat point, the service had been really good. We spent over $100 and there wasn’t a single thing about the meal worth talkingabout. This place is overrated, save your money and go elsewhere, there are much better options in the vicinity. GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! Super excited that Iowa City has a GREAT steak dinner experience right dtown!! Host, Servers, and staff... were exactly what you would want and expect from a Midwest restaurant. So nice, so professional, and on top of your needs. Veryreasonably priced apps, salad, and even the a la carte steaks won’t break the bank!!! It’s great for a fancy dress up nightout or shorts and a T for some great casual, fine dining…either one is accepted!!! Outdoor and/or indoor dining with fancycloth napkins to impress!! Service was great, but the 8oz sirloin was a bit dry when prepared medium rare. My old fashioned with Cedar Ridge was great and... the asparagus was well prepared. Creme brulee for dessert was also good and toasted at the bar. Overall the meal was good butcould have been juicier. The bartender was attentive and friendly making for a good experience, but I'd probably spend another$10 on a better steak so long that it's prepared any better. Read more

Pretty decent steak place. Everything that was ordered by my party was good. Had a small steak with Horseradish crust that was... cooked correctly - med rare - and shared some sides. Decent spot for small and medium parties. Service was a little lacking andslow - this is mostly forgivable - was here on a Monday with a big crowd. Read more
