We drove from Yorktown for Chesapeake Wine Trail weekend event to find only three people working the event. Tables unturned. ... People flagging down the three over tasked people just to get a drink. It appeared as if very few people had food. Threefamilies left without being served within an hour with us just showing up. Disappointed. Read more

My husband found this quaint place while looking for an 'escape' from the city WITH OYSTERS. This is less than 3hrs from DC. ... We arrived to a lovely B&B and a warm greeting from the proprietor, Peggy. We sat out one the patio, sampled the yummy winesand had some AMAZING oysters (SO FRESH) and a charcuterie plate. It was a perfect day to enjoy the delicacies offered. When wechecked into the Hope and Glory Inn we fell in love with the quaint cottage. The whole property is absolutely beautiful. Wetruly enjoyed the outdoor bath before I took a bike ride on one of the complimentary bikes. That evening we dined in the mainhouse, romantic, rustic, all around charming. I don't know if my review could come close to describing the sheer GENIUS oftheir chef, but I will try. We started with fresh Rappahannock River oysters which were roasted and served with the most tastypesto, WOW! The next course was the gazpacho. I'm not a fan of cold soup, THIS was the exception. It was bursting withflavors and freshness (it was nice SEEING those heirloom tomatoes growing outside our cottage window, along with fresh herbs)that I could never describe. The main course was a large crab cake, with little to NO filler and just as fantastic aseverything she's done. I love to dine out, this chef IS phenomenal. From beginning to end, this place, with it's warm invitingpeople (even the housekeeping deserved a hug) and unbelievable food, to it's quaint cottages which have all the 'little things'you need, made this a magical weekend. I can only imagine once the foliage is in bloom. DON'T miss this spot. Get away for afew... And meet Peggy, Chef Meseret, and Dudley, worth the drive! Read more

We recently visited the new location for the Dog & Oyster at the Hope & Gory Inn. We enjoyed the wine and the oysters very much!... However, given the upscale atmosphere and the price, I would expect that wine tastings and the glasses of wine we ordered tocome in wine glasses (not plastic cups). We found this in opposition to the rest of the atmosphere. Read more
