Really great little 50s style diner with great energy. The employees are always super friendly. I moved to Jacksonville from... Cleveland a couple years ago and I've been on the lookout for a good corned beef sandwich. A friend recommended this place andthey didn't disappoint! My boyfriend really enjoyed his omelette, too. I am not one to write reviews. I only usually write them to warn you to stay away or to let you know it's a MUST go to place.... This is my first and last time ever going to Deerwood Diner. I thought it was going to be a small gem by reading the reviews. Iordered a patty melt (medium) and asked to upgrade my side to corn nuggets. The menu advertised "cajun street corn nuggets"which sounded amazing to me. But there was nothing "cajun" about them. They were over fried, hard as a rock, that came withwhat tasted like ranch dressing mixed with ketchup. No cajun at all. Super disappointed. I moved onto my patty melt and saw itwas so little and over cooked. The burger only took up about half the bread, it was mostly cheese and burned onions (not evencaramelized). The patty melt was almost as hard to bite into as the over fried bland corn nuggets. When I was handed my bill, Iwas taken back to see my total was $18.89. The patty melt was $10 and I asked to upgrade my side to corn nuggets and did expectan upcharge for a few dollars, but not $8!!! The menu lists the Cajun Street Corn Nuggets as an appetizer for $8 and I wouldhave ordered that had I'd know the upcharge was so high. At first I thought I was given the appetizer corn nuggets but if thatwas the case, then were was my side that came with my patty melt? As the menu states each burger comes with the choice of oneside. I really like the home town, or local restaurant. The big chain restaurants can never capture the special atmosphere. Friends... having coffee, great conversation and fellowship. The staff know what you want and who you are. Breakfast was made to order andfresh. I ordered a veggie skillet, with over medium eggs, English muffin and a coffee $11.00.
