Took my family to Jim Thorpe for a visit. We were hungry, so stopped in The Mad Hatter. First impression, was it was a dump,... but we're in a tourist town, let's give it a shot. It got worse from there. The seats hurt our rears, and we are smallish toaverage size people. The tables were barely standing, rickety, with table clothes thrown over them. Ours was still dirty withcrumbs. Gave our orders, and sat there for at least 45 minutes before we saw our food. All during this time, the table next tome sat full of paper plates full of food from the previous guests. After all this, the bill came.... $76 bucks for 2 kids, 2adults. We had pulled pork sandwiches , and watered down tea, 2 cans of soda. Never again, and wouldn't recommend to anyone. This place is a complete dump, and using it's location to make a fortune of cheap pulled pork. They try to dress it up with theblind guy playing the piano, but it doesn't help. If you're hungry, I'd try eating your shoe before coming here. I can't evencomprehend the positive reviews to this place, as unless you're a homeless person, this wouldn't be an acceptable place to eatanywhere. Read more

It took me a lot of deliberation in writing this review. I don't like writing bad reviews for small businesses, so I'll start... with the good and end with a good. First off, if I could give the server/host/bartender a separate rating, I'd give him a 5+!!He hosted, waited and served 10 tables plus manned a bar and still had a great attitude. Now to the rest of our experience. Iordered the half rack of ribs and it looked amazing!!! If only it tasted as good as it looked.... I wouldnt have minded the 1.5hours of sipping on my $2.75 12oz of Canada Dry ginger ale (yes...same can you can buy in a soda machine for 75 cent). But therewas no taste at all....no hint of seasoning or rub. It was as if the rack was oven "smoked", possibly with liquid smoke and thencharred on a grill and sweet potato fries (actually really good, but I would have loved them better with a sprinkle of brownsugar). Maybe I got a bad one....there's always a bad rack or 2 in every batch now and then. My wife ordered a salad (which mostplaces can't mess up), however, when hers came out it, it looked delicious but missing a vital ingredient for the tastebuds.....it was missing the DRESSING. Smh one good thing about being in there for 2 hours while waiting on drinks, food and thenthe check, was we conversed and made new friends with several other tables that braved the wait and didn't get up after 30minutes of waiting on drink orders to be made. We've been visiting Jim Thorpe for the past 3 years and we've passed thisestablishment every time and always saw the long wait and thought it must be good! We didn't get to experience any of thatgoodness, except the calm and very busy host/server/bartender one man show. So would I visit again? Yes....but would only orderthe sweet potato fries. I had friendlier service at a toll booth. There are signs promoting violence against the President inside. NOT PRO 2ND... AMENDMENT, JUST OBNOXIOUS. It is not for tourists or adults. The tables & chairs are child-sized and dilapidated. This placefeels creepy and not welcoming. The service is deathly slow. They let their dog roam through the restaurant & it kept rubbingagainst me while I tried to eat the food that took 45+ minutes to arrive. They're still blaming the past pandemic for their lackof hospitality. Food is served in baskets with paper lining. Drinks are served like WAWA in the can without a glass or ice. Side dishes are served in thimble sized dixie cups. No effort is made to be slightly hospitable. This place was unfriendly &uncomfortable and definitely not somewhere I would ever return. Read more

We ordered sandwiches. The other reviewers who say the food was great, good for you, but we never got our lunch. Party of two,... two sandwiches and we were waiting over an hour! Save your time and money and hit up the hot dog stand near the train station. The arnold palmer tasted funny as well. The waiter never asked if everything was good, or followed up indicating there was anissue or delay. They should be paying people to come to their establishment at this rate. We were one of at least three whowalked out. Read more

This is one of the SLOWEST restaurants I?ve ever dined at. Once my girlfriend and I were sat down, it took about 25 minutes for... our waiter to bring over waters, and another hour and a half to receive our food. The salmon burger was completely charred onboth sides, and the brisket sandwich was extremely small considering the $16.00 price tag. Our side dishes were also tiny(contained in fast food ketchup cups). Do not waste your time or money here. There was a cute dog though. Read more
