I visited LA Mex for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised! We sat at the outdoor patio where there was live music. They... played a song from Coco which was really sweet, and most of the music was soft mellow Mariachi style music, which really set themood. The ambiance was perfect for a late summer evening. I ordered the flautas, and my partner ordered the tacos. The plateslook small but they are DENSE. The flautas had an amazing crunch, very obviously made fresh, and each flavor was unique andequally as delicious as the last. It was all vegan, nicely spiced, and had unique and interesting flavors. I have a HIGH heattolerance and I was not bored by the spice level (My ideal heat level is habanero, so keep that in mind if you?re more sensitiveto spices). This is a great place to come out to celebrate any special occasion. The outside patio with a fireplace is a nice way to enjoy... the few summer days in the midwest. The interior is set up like an hacienda and is very easy to accommodate almost any sizeparty, the way the dining room is sectioned off. The bar is nice and carries a very large variety of tequilas and a niceselection of beers. If you go on a Sunday, take advantage of the half of margaritas, they are delicious. The atmosphere is laidback and relaxing. The service is phenomenal, the staff does a phenomenal job keeping your glasses of water full and your tableclean. The food is above average and a little more on the Tex-Mex side. The portions are slightly on the small side, but they doa good job spreading it on the plate to give it the appearance of large portion. I have to come back for a dinner and a drink ona day when the mariachi band is playing. The one last thing I would like to point out is the credit card fee. The food lacked flavor. I remember the food here used to be amazing and full of flavor, with large portions. This last visit... though, not so much. Poor service from an inattentive and grumpy server. Margaritas were weak also. Again they used to be someof the best in town. Wondered if I was served non alcoholic. Could not taste the tequila at all, even the lime mix seemedwatered down. There should be a hint of tequila flavor in a margarita. There was not. After two big margaritas you should feelsomething. Update !! Yesterday we gave this restaurant one more try . The food tasted worse than the last visit . None of us actually... finished the food . Good restaurant , nice atmosphere. I had Fiesta Chimi it was hot,fresh and delicious. My husband got theirSpinach Chicken enchiladas and he as well liked it. Their fried ice cream was good too . Our waitress was helpful. The reason Iam not giving 5 star is because; Fajita was swimming in the oil , fish taco could use some spices I wouldn't order that again.Their margarita was watered down,super light almost no taste,we got the frozen one so that maybe the reason. Had the Thursday Burrito special was pretty good. I like their Salsa the rice is ok.
