Don?t judge a book by its cover and don?t judge Bug Monster Sushi & Thai by its exterior. Inside is excellent poke, sushi, and... pad Thai. The ability to order each of those dishes made each member of our family happy. Everything was well seasoned andfresh. We?ll return the next time we return to Kauai. Read more

Don't let the shabby interior make you pass on this place. The food will change your mind. I've had several sushi from places in... NY, and this place is definitely unique. The purple yam and garlic chili sauce on the Holly Crab roll is a great touch. Theirpoke are decently sized to share. Their J on Fire roll also has a nice heat to it, but not as spicy as you'd think. Overall agreat sushi spot, even if the seating area isn't the best. Would definitely suggest takeout. Read more
Best poke I've ever had! The monster poke has a delicious ponzu sauce studded with oh so fresh chunks of ahi and salmon. Also... had some green curry with chicken.. Perfect spice level and so fresh as well. Loved the Thai tapioca pudding with fresh coconutfor dessert. Others in the family said that their monster roll sushi was also very tasty (I didn't try it). You know how you can?t judge a greasy Mexican restaurant by its setting? Same thing with Big Monster. The food is excellent.... Easily the best sushi on the island. I?m usually not a big fan of the combo of two types of food (Japanese and Thai) but itworks here. The sushi rolls are full of flavor and the Thai curries are delicious. Truth is that they might do Thai better thansushi. Great stop in Lihue or visit the food truck in Poipu/Koloa. Why not 5 stars? Too few gluten free options. It should beeasy to order a shrimp-based roll without tempura but you can?t. They ?don?t offer shrimp without tempura,? yet I was able toorder red curry with shrimp that was delicious?and no tempura in sight. Confusing. But Big Monster is a great option for anyonedining on the island. Read more
