My husband and I were regulars here pre Covid and have tried this sushi time and time again to give it just 1 more chance since.... The fish, sushi rice, & presentation were all top notch. The quality of tonight?s fish and rice were of gas station storequality. $75 of sushi and with 6 soy sauce packets. Mushy rice, uncut cucumbers in my roll, all tempura was soggy even whenpicked up 6:55pm for our 7pm time frame- obviously had been sitting out for who knows how long. This will definitely be our lasttime ordering takeout from Kenko. It 100% is not the same quality as it used to be. We?re sad to see this place go down hill-all the crunch and piled on sauces isn?t going to mask quality for us. Read more
A+ customer service, and even better food. I did not wait long to be seated. This sushi joint came highly recommended and I have... to agree, it did live up to the hype. The sushi was absolutely scrumptious! I had the Monster, the Dancing After Fire, andSeared Kani. The house salad was simple, yet fresh and crisp. This may very well get drowned out in the chorus of voices here, but Kenko Sushi is without a doubt the best sushi I've ever... had, and it's not close. I've been here or ordered from them over 50 times at this point - every single order has been perfect,every experience amazing. The consistency is just mouth-dropping. One of my chums and I accidentally discovered this place acouple of years ago when it was at its old location around the corner on Main Street and started coming by often after that. Thedownside was that that particular space was pretty small and they don't take reservations, so you were basically at the mercy oflocal customer traffic. If you came at dinnertime, it wasn't unusual to have a 45-minute wait, and we'd usually do it, alongwith hordes of other people. It's that good. The new location has a bigger space that we visited a few times prior to COVID, andI recall the wait times weren't as much of an issue. Every roll I've ever had here has been great. I suspect a lot of peopleare going to highlight the Godzilla Roll, which is delicious but a TON of food. I love it but I won't order it unless I've spentan hour on an elliptical within the prior 12 hours. Even then, you'll likely be stuffed. And the presentation value of this rolland frankly any of the special rolls is just top notch. My most recent to-go order was (and always is) a K4 Combo, which is agreat value - it's two giant special rolls for about $19. You can easily find a nearby sushi restaurant that's selling ONEspecial roll for close to that. Kenko also throws in a few pieces of another roll gratis, so you're getting tons of qualitysushi for that money. I selected the Devil's Ride, which has seared salmon, and the Amazing Sweet Potato Tempura. Both arelong-time favorites of mine, both are scrumptious. Wow what can I say?! This place is absolutely amazing. Love the Japanese infusion rolls never had anything like them. Immaculate... clean, beautiful presentations and packaging. I've been trying out the best sushi places in NJ recently and saw this was noted as one of the best, so you know I had to try... it! It is rated the best for a reason! And as such, the wait to get seated is proportional to how great it is. They don't takereservations and the wait for us was 45 minutes to an hour. They take your number down and call you when you're ready so you cango do whatever. That being said, WORTH THE WAIT! Their prices are relatively cheap and extremely affordable. The chirashi wasamazing and the sushi was equally as great! All the fish is fresh and the taste of everything was absolutely delicious. Theyhave extremely attentive waiters and provided a few things on the house! They know that customer satisfaction matters and boy isit recognized. I'm very sorry to write this, and I hate to have to. Kenko quickly became a staple in Lincoln Park, and even considered one of... the best sushi restaurants in New Jersey. I believe that it was. Pre-COVID Kenko was top-notch, service was impeccable, food wasfresh, everything there you absolutely loved. COVID hit businesses hard and I understand that. I don't knock them for take-outonly, waiting for a table at kenko was always expected, it must have been a hassle on the staff to accommodate a line of peopleevery day during service. What I must knock them for is quality. This is my fifth time ordering from Kenko since they switchedto take-out only, I always chalked it up to a bad roll of the dice. That happens. But five times now the food itself has been,well... underwhelming. Rice was mushy, rolls falling apart, tastes were muddled, There is a large difference between Kenko fromtwo-three years ago and today. I have hope it will go back to the way it was, one day. I took my fiance to Kenko on our firstdate and one-year anniversary that's how much I, really we, loved Kenko. It's kind of a special place for us, so it'sunfortunate it's just not the same.
