I visited this restaurant last week with a family friend . The chef was rude and definitely racist. She went around speaking to... the other patrons and the moment we tried to get her attention she blew us off.. the aesthetic is super dated!! Love this place. Has been my go to special occasion destination for years. I had eaten at JAR years ago when it had opened and then somehow it had dropped off my radar. I am so happy to have... re-discovered this gem of a restaurant. The interior is a bit dated, but still wonderfully comfortable with its elegant,private supper club feeling. The service and food are at a level you rarely find in LA. In a post COVID world I have come toexpect weak or understaffed servers even in the finest restaurants. Not so at JAR, from the host to the servers the staff areprofessional, knowledgeable, and top notch. The food is extraordinarily sublime. Their take on American classic / retroinspired dishes is Michelin star level. The dishes are familiar sounding but executed in such a modern context that everythingon the menu and the multitude of specials explode on your plate in both taste and presentation. This is a reinvention of achophouse and quite simply extraordinary. Unlike many of the celebrity chef’d restaurants, Suzanne herself is almost alwaysin the kitchen. Moreover, she takes the time each evening to go from table to table to greet you and ask if you are enjoyingyour meal. I cannot enthusiastically rave enough about this unique, wonderful restaurant.
