Great stop for Sunday dinner! Very chill atmosphere made for a relaxing, calm dinner. We tried the orichette and the lamb ragu dishes that were both spectacular. Finished with the special dessert and a yummy custard as well. Definitely in the $$ range, but was worth it!
This place is no joke. The food was delicious. I'll be honest and say that it did take a bit to get service once we were sat. But one look of discomfort was noticed by the host and he was quick to get us started before the waiter could get over. We loved his awesome hair he said he was thinking of going tiger stripes tomorrow!!! We started with the pizza Lombardino and it is fantastic. Be warned it comes with a ton of greens on top but that flavor combo is crazy good. I got the lamb, goat cheese ravioli. Just yes. All great thing to say just get it!! She order the gnocchi. We have never tried it before and it was good. The sauce was incredible. He ordered the eggplant and it was so delicately put together and once again the flavor pairing was amazing. This place does a great job and I highly recommend you go and check them out. We did not have a chance to sample some of their beverages but we saw a few go by and they looked great.
This is a wonderful Madison institution for an awesome and romantic dinner. The bread is so good and anything on the menu! Pizza is very good! Use local meat products! The restaurant has a great vibe! Italian food is the staple of the restaurant.
Just get the squash ravioli if it is on the menu. Hands down the best I've ever tasted! Although, if you are looking for something a little extra, try the seafood risotto, wow, fantastic! I can easily say this is one of the top meals I've had over the last year. They don't take reservations, but the staff really does provide a wonderful welcome.
We walked in not knowing what to expect. The outside looks very 50's retro, but the inside is beautiful, and the food was amazing, with a fun wine list. Our server was fantastic, making excellent recommendations. The gorgonzola stuffed dates were incredible, while the chicken over polenta and mushroom pasta didn't disappoint. Lombardino's has been the gastronomic highlight of our trip to Madison.
After living in Madison for more than 30 years I finally made it to this iconic location and I'm now kicking myself for waiting so long. The charming decor and romantic interior combined with the light jazz background music of the Rat Pack, Tony Bennett and the like are enough to make you feel like you have been taken back in time to the golden era of fashion and class. Patrick the head chef and owner is so personable and down to earth with a commitment to the community, which flows perfectly into his passion for using seasonally and locally sourced items to inspire his inventive menu. Our appetizer of fried calamari and artichoke petals were lightly battered and perfectly prepared and accompanied with a mild aioli to complement their delicacy. Our entrees of Eggplant Napoletana and Orecchiette w/ Fraboni's Sausage & Rapini (a couple of the staple entrees) were presented beautifully, but the flavors took the evening to another dimension. We shared the entrees between the 2 of us and loved every last bite. As we savored the remaining morsels of our dinner we couldn't decide which dessert to bring the meal to conclusion.....so we chose 2. The chocolate and butterscotch Budino with caramelized hazelnuts arrived with decadence in a beautiful footed compote glass and would have been the perfect conclusion to the night. But the Tiramisu with chocolate shavings was the best we've ever had (including examples from Rome and Venice), just say'n! We're so happy we finally made it and are planning a return to explore and enjoy the fall menu.
It?s a good, established fine dining Italian restaurant. We sat outdoors on a beautiful evening and the service was great. All servers are kind and attentive. Some examples of the food here-bucatini, linguine, and cheesecake. We also had the polenta. All pasta dishes tasted like genuine Italian pasta with rich, bold flavors. It did not taste cheap at all. The polenta was amazing. I hope to try their meatballs next time I go. The cheesecake was a perfect ending the meal. It wasn?t too sweet was well balanced with fruits and nuts. Obviously it?s a bit expensive but one gets what they are paying for.
The outdoor dining in the parking lot is phenomenal! Always avoid going to Lombardino's on a Friday night because of the difficulty of getting a seat, but with the open patio, we walked right in at 6:15 pm. The food of course is always local and innovative, a lovely Wisconsin take on Italian-American cuisine.
