Contrary to the restaurant?s self description, this restaurant is NOT friendly to newcomers. I visited the town for the first... time with the plans of going to the beach and grabbing some lunch. I had to use the restroom before going to the beach and wentinto Cala?s to ask whether I could use their?s. They were not busy and there were no other customers inside. The staff membernot only would not let me use their restroom but also would not direct me to any other place in town where I could find arestroom. Anyone who?s been a tourist in a new town can understand how frustrating that is. Naturally, when it came to lunchtime I went elsewhere. A restaurant that cannot be bothered to extend basic courtesy to others does not deserve their business. Read more

The bartender Scottie was very attentive and personal. He recommended the Cuban sandwich and he was right as the sandwich had a... nice toasted crunch and great flavor. The sweet potato fries were also crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. If youare looking for a quality meal or to just grab a drink then you really should check this place out. Read more

Reply to owner: It's about attitude. I suggested you serve half-pints of beer, and the response was a terse "no". When I said... that it's both kind of a drivable size and nicer to drink (granted it's a subjective opinion), the bartender just looked at mewithout answering. A tip: when a customer suggests something, humor them a little. "We'll think about it, thanks" is the moreappropriate reaction. Doesn't mean you actually have to take their suggestion... I was looking forward to have a small beerevery so often between errands, like I would elsewhere, but now I just feel I don't want to go back. Another subjectiveopinion: The amount of screens is a little sad to me. Doesn't really make anyone strike up conversation with a potential newfriend - or the bartender. I get that a sports event could use a visible screen, but not everyone likes a Hi-def gargantuan TVin their face while eating or drinking. I certainly don't. We all have our personal screens in our pockets nowadays if the needfor distraction is strong. It could be a really jolly bar, given it's one of the few options in Manchester, but now it's just aplace where you go in a real pinch. I will come back, but mostly because of taco cravings. Cala?s is a great restaurant a 2 minute walk from the train. It has a nice bar to gather for drinks, good food and weekly... specials like 1/2 price tacos on Tuesday?s. The craft beer selection includes four or five locals brews from north east MA. Thefood was favorable, service was fast, and the wait staff friendly. Cala?s went out of their way offering a free dessert to thetable next to us when the dessert they ordered was no longer available. Read more
