Went for dinner on Friday night and 6/6:15pm is the perfect time to arrive as we were seated right away and the restaurant was... still quite empty. The music started at 7pm and that is when it started to get very crowded so get there early and hang out forthe music. The place definitely has a great vibe and atmosphere. We ordered the pasta jambalaya, the pig out, and a side ofgrits. I was torn between the pasta jambalaya and shrimps and grits. I ended up choosing the pasta with a side of grits and itwas definitely the right choice. The pasta was delicious and a nice portion, it was quite spicy on its own and we almost askedfor extra spicy(I would not recommend getting it any hotter). The pasta also was delicious leftover a few days later. The gritswere a great choice as side, they were fluffy and delicious. They did not taste spicy while I was eating them but when Ireheated them the next day they did. I did see someone who ordered the shrimps and grits and it looked quite soupy and I do notthink you would really get to enjoy the taste of the grits with that meal. The mussels also looked extremely delicious. As forthe pig out, I have ordered similar meals at other restaurants so I was expecting a very large amount of food but when it came Iwas underwhelmed by the amount that they gave. It was still a good amount of food but nowhere near what I was expecting but allof the items were very delicious and cooked very nicely. If I had to choose one I would definitely go with the brisket. Nexttime for the price I would probably just order 2 different sandwiches as opposed to the pig out. Read more

My son and I dined here recently based on a recommendation. I was excited to try Big Daddy's because I've seen the restaurant... countless times over the years on my train ride to/from work; and I recently returned from a trip to New Orleans and wanted tosee how authentic their food was. I had the Cajun Asian ribs and gumbo bowl to start. The gumbo was rich, flavorful and packedwith different meats. It was definitely missing that "dirty" taste that I distinctly remember from the countless bowls of gumboI had when in NOLA, but that in no way took away from its goodness. I definitely enjoyed it. The Cajun Asian ribs were tasty. Anice sweet stickiness that I've had at many different restaurants over the years. The Cajun taste was very muted but for me thatwas a good thing, as I find the Cajun flavor to be overpowering at times. The sesame seeds were also a nice touch. For ourentrees we ordered the Louisiana Shrimp Grits, Seafood Etouffee and Mollie's Catfish. I had the Shrimp Grits and have to saythat it was on par, if not better, than what I had recently at a popular restaurant when in NOLA. The shrimp were plentiful, butthe gravy was definitely the star, as it had phenomenal flavor and was the perfect consistency. The grits were not lumpy and allof the flavors of the dish were complimentary to each other. That dish is a winner! I sampled my son's Seafood Etouffee and itwas equally as tasty and plentiful in seafood throughout. I didn't try his catfish dish since I don't prefer catfish, but hesaid the gravy and rice from it were "very good" together. He held off on diving into the catfish because he was pretty stuffedat that point. That said, the portions are sizeable and we both took home leftovers. Service was attentive but not overbearingor neglectful, which I appreciated. For dessert I ordered the Bananas Foster for myself and pecan pie to take home. The BananasFoster was classically and perfectly prepared and satisfied my never ending sweet tooth. It Read more

Had a fabulous night at Big Daddy's this past Friday night. Harmonica Bill and the Stacked Deck played right next to us while we... dined at the bar. I enjoyed one of the specials- braised short ribs over habenero cheesy grits. Yummy! My hubby enjoyed theslightly spicy wings. The bread pudding was meh. The service was great and man,the band was rocking Chicago Blues! And nocover! Definitely coming Bach. Can't wait to try the shrimp and grits,as well as the jambalaya, and hear some more great music. Best Cajun food on the island! I've been to a few Louisiana spots on the island and this place has the best selection and taste... so far. I started out with the Jefferson Parish Blackened Gator. A generous portion for the price. The taste was out if thisworld. The sweetness of the pineapple and habanero were paired perfectly with the spiciness of the habanero and the Blackenedseasoning. The tail meat was a good choice over flank for the tenderness. For a main, I split 2 entrées; the Louisiana shrimpand grits as well as the Billy carter's crawfish. The clear winner of the 2 was the shrimp and grits. An amazing combo of freshand unique ingredients made this dish. The grits were just the right amount of spicy for me. The crawfish was good, but a littletoo rich for me. The peanut flavor was super strong and a bit too creamy for my liking. What I did like was that you could stillvery clearly taste the crawfish. Next time I think I'll get another order of the grits and maybe try the catfish and Jambalaya. Read more
