Delicious food and very friendly service. Attentive waitstaff in a beautiful setting. My only suggestion is that the 4-course... meal was served over about 3 hrs? a little slow on pace. I can see how other patrons may like that pace , but the gap betweencourses was sometimes 20-25 minutes. Read more

The evening we were there, there was only one entree option, a fish stew. I overheard someone else ask if there was anything... for people who don't like fish. The waitress finally offered that a chicken breast was available. My husband asked thewaitress if he could also have chicken. She grudgingly agreed, and we waited another half hour for our entree. The othercourses were very good, but the fish was tasteless with 2 tiny pieces of salmon and 3 small shrimp. The cod pieces were larger,and not seasoned at all. We read some wonderful reviews, and I have to assume there was a problem in the kitchen. We drove 45minutes for my husband's birthday, and we had very high hopes for a really special meal. I have never attended a price fixdinner with only one choice for an entree, and that choice is fish. The service was inattentive, and we were unable to getreplacement knives to butter our rolls. My wife and I were excited to try the Canal House Station restaurant for lunch today after reading a promising review and... looking at the menu. The interior is very attractive and historical, with beautiful wainscotting and old pumpkin pine flooring.The chairs are a better choice for seating than the banquettes with pillows. The lunch menu has fewer than ten items, but thereis a suitable range of choices with interesting ingredients and preparations. Our first suspicion of trouble in the kitchen wasour forty-minute wait without any explanation or refills on water or coffee. One entrée arrived first, a blini with softscrambled eggs, caviar and smoked salmon that was well-prepared and presented. The second entree, a fried chicken sandwichsliced in half, arrived with an obviously uncooked interior. The chicken was not pink, it was raw throughout the middle anddangerously inedible. Since there was no server available, we had to go to the kitchen and inform a cook ourselves. We wereoffered another choice, but after being served raw chicken, we declined. This is an inexcusable error that shows poor chefskills and irresponsible kitchen management. I will not go to a restaurant that puts our health at risk. We were offered a freemeal and apology by the server, though it was not her fault. This is exactly the kind of mistake that requires an apology bymanagement. We tipped the server the equivalent of the meal we ate and will never go to the Canal House Station again. Read more
