While visiting my son and his wife I had the opportunity to dine at the Sanitary. The view from our table was nice, and we ... enjoyed a basket of piping hot hush puppies while we waited for our meal to arrive. It took a bit of time to get our food, butit was definitely worth the wait. Shrimp grits were my choice, the kids ordered fried shrimp, fish, and grilled chicken. We werepleased with the portions, I had plenty of food to fill my to-go box. We did NOT have room for dessert, so we took some homewith us instead! I have to say, their pies are beyond delicious. The waitress was excellent. I love that it was right on the ocean. The only issue is the food isn't the great. My seafood potato... was amazing but my friends dish didn't have much flavor and didn't taste fresh. They did give her money back for thatthankfully. We just left. We were visiting from out of state and like many others the restaurants in either direction had 30-40 min wait. We... really wanted to go to Ruddy Ducks. We didn't want a wait, so walked to this one. No wait lots of tables. Big mistake. Havepatience and go somewhere else. The hush puppies weren?t hot, butter is not melted. The shrimp Im sure was store bought frozen.I think they they boiled the shrimp from the frozen state. The shrimp were rubbery in very watered down butter sauce, noseasoning at all. She said she would take it off the bill, so she took it back yet still charged for the 1/2 eaten salad. RUN!! Read more
Restored restaurant that first opened in 1938. The walls and wooden floors look original to the place. The service was slow for... lunch on Tuesday, but the food was worth waiting for. I enjoyed the fresh blue fish, and my husband liked the scallops inlobster sauce over linguini. Read more

I've been coming here since I was born '88 with my family (and my family has been coming since it was originally Tony's dating... back to the 30s). They have always been the place to go to in the area. About 10 year ago they went through a pretty bad phasewith low quality food and low portions not worth the price. Now they are back to perfection and I fully recommend. EverythingI've tried there is good. I will continue to bring one day my kids and grandkids here just as my grandfather did (Capt. MaconSnowden).
