PROS: - Food is very good - Ambiance is great - Service and staff are friendly and efficient. - Dietary and allergy needs are met when requested CONS: - Drinking water does not taste nice. Needs to be filtered through an RO - Benches without a back rest instead of chairs make it uncomfortable for seniors. OVERALL: Nice restaurant if you can sit on chairs instead of benches.
Oh my goodness! Huge on atmosphere and such a lovely setting! Wonderful service and exceptional food. Would definitely visit again.
Atmosphere authentically England Pub style. Food not so great. Chicken pot was was a bit dry and the steak and mushroom pie was cold.
A lovely English Style pub that is worth the trip to get to. We went in Sunday and had the roast beef Sunday special. The Yorkshire pudding was light and fluffy, the beef tender and the portions were huge. We could have easily split one portion between us. The serving staff was great, friendly, gave good recommendations about the different local beers for my husband to try. The gardens are lovely, we came later in the day and didn?t have time to wander the grounds but will next trip.
Stopped in for lunch at 2pm. We were lucky to get a table. We had the ploughman plates and they were absolutely delicious. Ample portions ( far too much for this old guy to manage.) Service was quick and professional. The Scotch eggs were very good. Highly recommend for a traditional pub meal.
Vegan review: I was satisfied but not super impressed. And that's totally ok because this place doesn't claim to be for vegans. They have a vegan wrap that was fine (grilled and filled with raw veggies and hummus). The roasted potatoes are cooked in butter, so the only side I could eat was a green salad, which was also acceptable. Fresh, healthy, colourful and wholesome. I've had worse at actual vegan restaurants! Not super filling though, and not too warm or hearty (unlike the other non-vegan menu items). Looking forward to visiting again. As a whole, this place is a real gem and I would totally recommend visiting! Go for the ambience, the memories, and the authentic atmosphere. Service was excellent, everything super clean and cozy. Thank you!
Exceptional restaurant. Fabulous, friendly and happy staff. Food was delicious, and the drink (I said 'surprise me') was fantastic too. Such a great environment to unwind with a meal in a vibrant but quiet space. We were there during the 2nd wind of the heat wave of 2021 and the menu was 'cold' which was great. Good selection considering and the flavour was phenomenal. Big thanks for a much needed quiet evening meal out. Actually excited and looking forward to going again during 'hot meal season' just to see what they can do given how amazing the 'cold meal' menu was.
Took my Mum here for her birthday brunch. It couldn't have been better. Our server, Caroline, was fantastic, recommending choices, making sure mum was comfy, and joined in singing happy 87th birthday for mum. The setting is spectacular...a country pub with spectacular gardens and a delicious menu. We had the Reuben sandwich with oyster chowder and the shrimp sandwich with lemon roasted potatoes and salad. Super fresh and flavorful. They don't take reservations, so arrive early, put your name on the list, take a drive in the country, return when they call you, enjoy a lovely country meal. Solid 5 Star choice. This place is the real deal.
Nanaimo has lots of great places to eat, but none better than The Crow & Gate Pub. Call (250) 722-3731 to make reservations and ask about our mouthwatering desserts too.
