I had a great experience coming here. Our server Mike was extremely helpful and he was able to share some insights about the... city. This was our first time in Connecticut and he certainly was very helpful, going above and beyond his job. Thank you somuch for being a great host and giving us tips of where to go. Thank you Mike! We normally eat at the Union League, but decided to try this one as we were staying in the hotel. From the maitre d’ to the... waiter to the excellent food to the superb Sancerre, John Davenport’s is now on our list as we are in New Haven at least onceevery 2-3 years. My only suggestion is that they remove 1-2 Chardonnays and add at least 1 White Bordeaux to the wine list. Read more

write reviews for two reasons out-of-this-world experiences and horrible/won't go back experiences.....This clearly from the... one-star was not a good one. I went this past weekend for my mother's birthday (one of the bigger ones) and being theeldest/most local of the son's, my dad and myself wanted to give her a very special day/night; ending with a great dinner. (thathighly fell short) We had made reservations for this past weekend for my parents, a handful of relatives and myself. I got therepunctually for our dinner reservations to be greeted by the hostess which was nice to give me a menu to lookover while I waiteda few minutes for the others to park their cars. (Note: always use the valet service Friday-Saturday; parking can take aconsiderable amount of time otherwise) Soon after the rest of my family showed up and we were seated. Aedan (think I spelt itcorrectly) helped by getting all of us water and asked him a few times throughout the evening for things, that he was very quickto get. Robin was our main waitress, and she was great throughout the night; especially with the disarray that was about tocommence. So the party of seven (sadly one couldn't come finally) of us were there at 6:30pm and got water/drinks/rolls in thefirst 20 minutes. Robin seem to be only one of one of two main waiting staff (with 1-3 helping dining staff/ not counting thebar staff) because of this she appeared to be swamped by the number of tables that she was serving. **That night was also thenight that Yale vs. Harvard game was and that was one of the main excuses that I heard continuously on why things weren't goingsmoothly. *So now that you have the mood set; after the first 30 minutes everything started to fall apart* We than waited morethan HOUR for our meals (came right before 8:30pm) not an hour from when we got there but an hour from when we got appetizers.**Got there at (I can time stamp all the activities of the night because of the slow escalation of frustrat Read more

Went on graduation weekend, so was offered a special menu. Unfortunately, even with a reservation and over flooding of... waitstaff, the service was clunky—our waitress didn’t give us all the specials (we only realized from hearing from anothertables waitstaff), and she kept forgetting our requests. Food was just bad—seemed prepared way in advance, and the menu wasuninspired and outdated. There’s a reason this place isn’t full for graduation weekend. Read more
