Sushi from NYC's old school sushiya, Sushi of Gari. It once it held a one Michelin star but not anymore to my knowledge. It is... definitely one of the restaurants that started the sushi culture in the early 1990s for New Yorkers and still keeps its class tosome level. For sushi perhaps, I have had better looking ones, however, the full umami flavor from its aged fresh fish wasanother level. You can copy the look, but the flavor was unique and this place had that depth. Of course out of their own prideor dignity, they are too cool to offer miso soup or a maki along with the nigiri. Nonetheless, I think you still need to try itat least once. I personally found their sautéd tomato garnish over the salmon nigiri very interesting. It was such a surprisehow much umami flavor came out from pairing the salmon and tomato. Also, the funniest part is that the $140 sushi omakase comeswith fresh wasabi, but the $40 something chirashi comes with cheap soulless dry wasabi lol...you definitely get what you pay forhere....or a bit less. Speaking of the chirashi don, even though you are getting low quality, gloomy wasabi, the fish on top ofthe sushi rice are still very pronounced. The snapper was aged well, as I chewed a few times its flavor hit my tongue. For theakami, I usually feel that it is bland compared to other tuna cuts, but not from here. It is definitely a nice and economicalway to taste aged fresh fish flavors. I see many reviews of disappointment with the food or service. However, it is worthtrying in my opinion. Read more

By far one of the best high-end sushi restaurants in NYC. It’s always crowded so be sure to call and get a reservation. I... rave about this spot all the time. The omakase is worth it. Best spicy tuna rolls in manhattan. They have some gourmet itemslike truffle and quail egg sushi and stewed tomato’s on salmon. Their salmon sashimi is also marinated so well. The toro isunbelievable. Who knew sushi can be so good. This is a must for any sushi lover. It’s crowded every day of the week becauseit is so good. They have a nice Japanese beer and saki selection as well. As for taste, this is top notch. I try to go as oftenas possible. Read more

This isn't a very big place. We sat at the bar. One of the things I noticed was that the sushi chefs were prepping a lot of... sushi orders for delivery. We tried the omakase ($166) per person. We spent $400 for two omakase and a glass of wine. We had 15pieces each. The sushi was not great, but very pricey. The pieces came at a very fast pace. We were full. In general I'm not ahuge big fan of omakase since I don't know in advance what I will be getting. We won't be back. Read more

I went here on recommendation and I'm so glad I did. I know they are better places but this is a nice mid-range sushi... restaurant. The fish was so fresh and the cuts of fish were out of this world! Read more

The pinicle of new age NYC sushi. If it's worth the price is a personal call but it's as good as Ginza Yasuda and above Tonashi... Nakazawa or even Brushstrook. Read more
