I recently came to The Bar Room for a business brunch. I picked it because it was conveniently located and I remembered it... having a good menu. We were both pleasantly surprised as the food has gotten even better then the last time I was there a fewyears prior. We had the Classic Benedict and the Steak and Eggs. Both were cooked exactly as ordered and was delicious. We hada few drinks at the bar before leaving and the were a really good size and perfectly mixed. The bar as well as the restaurantis very inviting. Great decor. I want to add the service and staff were very professional and also very friendly. I met a few friends here for dinner while visiting NYC after moving to a different state. I hadn't been here in a while and was... happy to see it was still fabulous looking, if not better, then the last time i was there. Our dinner was excellent and theservice was professional but also warm and inviting. We shared a few appitizers (mac and cheese was divine) which were allgood. I ordered The Bar Room Burger which was cooked perfectly and was so delicious. My friends ordered the Fish and Chips(crispy light and very good) and The Wild Mushroom Risotto (which has just the right amount of truffle). Average. I came here just for drinks with a group of girl friends. The drinks were basic fare and overpriced. The average drink... was $16-17, and my Moscow Mule was mostly ice. The service left something to be desired. I'm aware my friends and I look muchyounger than our ages, but as soon as our group entered and sat down, our waiter walked up to the table without a greeting,asserted that he assumed we all wanted drinks, and requested IDs from the entire table. He then grabbed a tea light from thetable and scrutinized each ID for some time. I understand the need to be careful and I'm certainly supportive of carding, butthere's a way to do it without being condescending towards your guests. I didn't see any other tables carded the entire time wewere there. The service was mostly inattentive. We were there for quite a while and didn't feel rushed, which was nice, but wehad to chase down our waiter for the bill. The ambiance was nice and it's a lovely space, albeit a bit loud on a Thursday night.We also didn't have reservations and were seated quickly, which we greatly appreciated. One of my friends recently came here for lunch and she said there was a postcard here. I have a collection of bars and... restaurants postcards... so naturally I had to find a reason to go and the postcard did not disappoint! Not only that, as youwalk in, the back main dining area was super cute! The menu was limited which was good, not as many choices to choose from andeverything sounded good! We were there when happy hour started, we started with two drinks not on their special (Cold Brew-Tiniand French 75), ordered a salad, pork belly buns to start and my friend ordered the burger while I got the salmon... and got twohappy hour drinks (sangria and rosé).
