We hopped off of the Blue Ridge Parkway for lunch and immediately saw this gem. Sandwiches made to order were amazing. Snacks... and memorabilia available for purchase. Amazing little roadside stop with a family feel. Easy parking. Very close to the Parkway(300 yards). Read more

My family went to Christa's with our son and daughter from Charlotte. We live in Newland year round. The owner was so rude that... my son in law was flabbergasted. We almost walked out, but had already ordered and unlike the owner we have manners. In additionto the rudeness, the meal was cold, grilled cheese small and not good, the coke flat and it was very expensive for what we got.Several other customers were taken back by her rudeness. When I called to politely let her know our experience as well asothers, her response was "I have had 300 customers today" and I said that is no excuse for rudeness, then she said "as I said Ihad 300 customers" and I don't really care." You would think that since she has been in this business for quite a while anddepends on customers that she would appreciate the "Leaf Lookers" and locals such as us. There is no excuse for rudeness nomatter the situation. Attitude is everything! Needless to say, we will not return and we will share our experience with otherswho are considering her restaurant. We arrived at 10:15 on a Thursday and ordered breakfast. The building is more of a mini-general store/souvenir shop that serves... food. Several tables were inside and picnic tables outside. All breakfast is served in a sandwich with a variety of breads tochoose from. Because everyone raved about the yeast rolls, that?s what we chose. There is a large selection to add in. I choseegg, bacon, tomato and cheese. Hub chose egg, (giant slab of) tasty sausage and cheese. He really liked his sandwich and half ofmine. I don?t eat bread or sugar, so it seemed really sweet to me. Hubs also enjoyed a cinnamon roll. I tasted one small bite. The butter-cream icing was buttery and very good. There was a whole lot of cinnamon in that roll. The coffee wasn?t anything towrite home about, sugar or fake sweetener and only powdered artificial creamer or a jug of milk were available. The owner wassweet, as were her assistants. You pay after you?re finished, total cost: $16.60. We will skip breakfast and go for lunch nexttime. They were barbecuing meat and it smelled heavenly. Not that many choices around but the food was home made and tasty enough. They are extremely flexible regarding what to put in... the sandwiches, my yeast bun roasted chicken (a bit dry) was good, my husbands club sandwich was quite tasty. The cole slaw wasdrowning in sauce and the bake beans had thick sauce as well. I had a salad, it had lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, blackolives and sliced pickles. And butterfinger pie, probably the best of the meal. My surprise was when I went to pay and it was$40. I asked and each item is charged on her own. The menu doesn't have prices. Read more
