This is at the Tennis Hall of Fame. This is a beautiful building and grounds, but the restaurant part is a bit tired, as were... the staff. The food was fine. Got lobster salad, calamari, fish, wine. We were with friends who had flown into RI from Chicagoand were 1st timers to Newport. They were thrilled to be there. Saw the museum and movie, shopped for tennis togs, had cocktailsand lunch in the front window watching people pass by, saw Thames Street shops. They loved it. Read more
Went for lunch and walked in the front door and it looked closed. Chairs on top of tables and no one to greet us. No sign to... direct us to the back. We wandered to the back and were finally greeted. Setting is LOVELY. View is beautiful. Cloth napkins andtable cloth, nice menu and food service provide for an elevated luncheon experience .... EXCEPT...(insert screech) thebackground music was horrendous. 80s and 90s rock music. Whaaaat?!? It so does NOT fit with the aesthetic or the setting. Thiswould have been an exceptionally classy and outstanding meal with some instrumental jazz or something as classy as therestaurant. Some of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had! We drove in more than three hours to visit the automobile museum but the... potatoes are worth the trip in and of themselves. I wish it was closer to home because I'd eat there regularly! Based on howclassy it looked I expected it to be much more expensive than it actually was as well. Read more
