The venue is beautiful and so much biggger inside than it looks from the outside. I am curious to walk around in there and check... it out without the huge crowd that was there on the night we were here. We went here for a class and the class was a part of afestival. There was nobody greeting at the door or anywhere obvious that looked like they were part of the event so we had towander around and disrupt other classes to ask if they knew where the class we were looking for was being held. We finally foundthe right place to go but we were 20 minutes late to a 1 hour class, when we arrived to the building 10 minutes early. This isnot the fault of the venue per se, unless they are the event organizers as well. The venue is beautiful and I will be back tojoin other art classes there. Read more

On the morning of Saturday, August 6th 2022 I decided to go on a walk. I live on Adams Ave. right around the corner from The... Monarch. I've walked past The Monarch numerous times on my morning walks or while walking my dog, but I've never visited any ofthe shops or attended any events held there. On this particular morning I was walking by admiring the mural, thinking abouthaving lunch there when I noticed that the mural goes down into the parking lot. I had never noticed this before and decided tocheck it out. As I entered the parking lot there was a woman getting out of her vehicle and exiting the lot. I followed themural down to the end of the lot and then turned around and began to walk towards the exit. About half way down the same woman Ihad seen leaving was approaching me and asked "Do you mind telling me what you're doing hanging out at the back of my lot?" Thequestion seemed to be loaded with attitude and felt very accusatory. I simply answered that I was checking out the mural andthat I was leaving. I think its important to mention that I am heavily tattooed and my tattoos were quite visible on this day. Ican't help but feel that if I didn't look the way I do, this question may have never been asked since I constantly see peoplestanding around or taking pictures by the murals. Maybe I'm wrong, but based on the way she looked at me and the tone of hervoice, this is how I feel. I really don't see any reason why she felt the need to ask me what I was doing. I was not loiteringin the lot or doing anything suspicious at all. I wonder if the other people I see admiring the murals are ever treated the wayI was. I left feeling very insulted and discriminated against. Based on what happened that morning I was definitely put offhaving lunch there and really don't see myself ever attending any events held there or visiting any of the shops. Read more
