Beautiful summer evening & I was out to eat with my parents. The Boathouse, which we were curious about was full. I did notice... it looked like half the tables were the tall tables with tall chairs & the other half appeared to be primarily regular table &chair height. There were several steps to climb up to dine there. So we went into the Pub. It's been remodeled since newownership took over. I had the beer battered walleye with crispy hash browns & a salad. The salad was generous with a nicevariety of lettuces & vegetables. My walleye was perfectly done & my hash browns were good. I loved that they were servedwith a dab of butter. The Pub interior seems more spacious after they knocked the walls out of the old anteroom. It seemsbrighter & I think there are more windows. I will admit I was a little disappointed to see a pool table & game area adjacentto the main dining room. It seemed like that could have been in another room intended for fun & games rather than having totalk over breaking balls. Great food! The menu could a little bit bigger. The new addition is very nice.
A mid-week road trip. If you want to call 45 miles a road trip. How about out of town. We went to the pub, because my wife... wanted to decompress from her work day. Also it has been 30 years since I've been there. As I hoped they've definitelyremodeled. The decor was simple but nice. They also have a outdoor space called the boathouse. I will go again and reviewthat. We went at happy hour. 4 to 6. Ordered a bluemoon to look at the menu. 3.00 not bad. The waiter gave us our menus, andinformed us of the special ( a different one every weekday). Today it was chicken fried steak, I took a chance. I was veryhappy, the steak was lightly breaded yet crisp. The mashed potatoes were REAL potatoes, I know who does that. The country gravywas good and there was enough of it. It also had corn. My wife ordered a bacon cheese burger and fries. She said it was good,but the fries could have been done more. I was impressed, and plan to try the other specials. The food was excellent but we had a bit of an issue with our server. Nothing major but they weren't able to split a check for us... and left us to try and sort it out ourselves and kept coming back in a pushy manner to see if we'd done her job yet. That was abit frustrating but overall still a very nice place with good food and beer selection. Read more
