A friend recommended this place and I am so glad they did. It is off the beaten path and not a place we would have found on our... own. The staff was great and the food was even better! Our meal started with an assortment of breads that were homemade andamazing. Everyone loved their meals and we all got something different. My friend recommended the crab cake, it was huge, no'filler' and delicious. My wife got the coconut shrimp and the sauce really made the dish. My son had the kids cheese burger andhe said it was delicious. For dessert I had the Key Lime Tart. I got it to go, I was stuffed, and wish I had eaten it there, Iwould have ordered a second one to go. When we come back to St. Augustine we will definitely be coming back. Thanks, Jay andJustin! We just had a good meal at Barbara Jean's. The restaurant has seating both inside and out with a beautiful view of the ICW from... their covered deck. The decor of the restaurant is bright and cheerful. Cocktails and wine were moderately priced. OurServer, Justin was very attentive and very personable. My wife had the catch of the day which was blacked Cobia with 2 sides. The fish was very tasty and the stuffed baked potato excellent. I sampled the chicken fried steak with white gravy and 2 sides. It was OK not the best or the worst I ever experienced. We shared a key lime tart that was good. The bread basket containssome great bakery products. We will return to sample other entrees. Read more
My go-to selection here is often the veggie plate. One of the few places that still offers a variety of Southern veggie options.... I had been craving a burger for days so indulged. Satisfied my craving but probably not on my recommended list for burgers.Definitely try a veggie plate! My friend had the grilled chicken with sides of rice & green beans. He said it was delicious &it looked like it was seasoned well. This is definitely a GO-TO place for She-Crab soup, too. WOW! Let me start by saying I?m very northern! Also, I?m a vegetarian and I?m normally not into southern or fried foods. I... selected this place because my husband is southern and I thought he?d enjoy it. The atmosphere and view are incredible. Weopted to sit on the deck outside. You sit right on top of the river and the view across the way is just beautiful wilderness.There are several boats and jet skis out on the water. Honestly you could just sit here and take in the view all day and becontent. The food was incredible! I opted for the 5-vegetable plate. We also go the crab cake appetizer, dirty rice, and everyguest receives a basket of fresh bread (pumpkin, jalapeño cheddar biscuits and regular roll). Other guests in my had meatloafand the mahi dish. Everyone was blown away. The green beans I got were the best I?ve ever had! Also I didn?t season anything, itwas already perfect. Normally I smother everything in hot sauce but I didn?t want to ruin the pure perfection. I wouldrecommend this place to anyone. It?s absolutely my favorite in this area if not all of Florida. We celebrated a milestone birthday with friends and family on the deck over the beautiful intercoastal. There's no development... yet on the other side so you get a great vista all around. Lovely boats passing by and even though it was hot hot outside, thebreeze and the shade made it enjoyable. I had the catfish and grits with black beans and rice and spinach for sides. It was allreally good with the beans and rice being best in class. All the fish portions I saw looks large. One note. Many restaurantslike this don't seat you until your whole party arrives. We didn't know this in advance and most of not all attendees were fromfar away which meant arrivals were staggered. Barbara Jeans showed flexibility for us and that really helped keep us together.We appreciated that. Recommend. Read more
